Dine and Donate 2013
International EB Awareness week is held every year from the 25th-30th of October to help educate and raise awareness about Epidermolysis Bullosa. This year DEBRA Australia held a new Dine and Donate campaign, suggesting people get their friends and families and share a meal together to help raise funds for support for DEBRA Australia. A big thank you to all who participated, here are some of their stories:
Mia and Sophie selling cookies at Balmoral beach to raise money for the butterfly children. Mia also raised money by asking her friends who came to her party to donate money rather than buy her a birthday present. The girls raised an amazing $500 and hoped that this would help out. It certainly has and is very much appreciated!
Kimberley from Melbourne raised $854 at a luncheon held with friends and family.
Mary and Kylie from Sydney raised $1,400
at a high tea also held with friends and family attending.
Kate, Linda and Laraine from Victor Harbor held a movie night and raised $1,040 on the night.
Family Support Coordinator visit to SA
Simone attended the South Australia EB clinic in October and met up with the EB families and the health professionals involved with their care. It was a great opportunity to meet up face to face and inform families of the new Family Support Program and how DEBRA could assist families.
SA Quiz Night
(article by Laraine Frost)
Never believing that we could possibly have the numbers for a successful Quiz Night, whenever it was suggested I cringed and quickly changed the subject.
Then one of my walking buddies said she had approached the President of the Butterfly Conservation, who just happened to also be a Quiz Master, and he had agreed to assist us. I was told that all I had to do, was find a reasonably priced venue, get some prizes, do the advertising, get bums on seats etc, etc. Sounds simple? Sure. I never even go to Quiz Nights, so had no idea what I was in for.
But the night was a huge success, not least with the fabulous Jessica from the Research team whose personality made the night and definitely made everyone feel welcome. After expenses we raised $2698.45 on the night. A great night was had by all, but will we do it again? Let’s just wait and see.
We would like to thank all involved, especially David Keane for being Quiz Master and the Modbury Bowling Club for their fantastic venue and support.
The EB Cross Country Ride planning is well under way with a fun packed 10 day event starting on the 14th March at Adora Downs, Queensland and finishing in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. If anyone is interested in finding out more please go to our website which outlines the route and costs involved. All money raised will help fund our Family Support Program and EB Nurses around Australia.
