Collections and Inclement Weather

Inclement weather, such as the two recent snowstorms that hit our region, impact CVWMA residential recycling and trash collections.  Road or street conditions and safety of collection drivers with our contractors help determine decisions made to suspend, delay one day, or in some cases, cancel collections.

Any impact to collections is posted to a red ticker tape on the CVWMA website, our social media sites and communicated to all of our member jurisdictions that participate in these programs. In addition, an updated message is recorded on the Recycling Hotline at (804) 340-0900 and the Trash Collection Hotline at (804) 425-0500 to expedite messages.

Upcoming Electronics Recycling Collection Events

The City of Richmond is hosting an electronics recycling event on Sat., March 28 at Broad Rock Park from 9 am - 2 pm. Hanover, Henrico, and Powhatan Counties will be hosting special collection events in April and May. Please visit our Event Calendar as some of these events include additional recycling opportunities.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collections

Most people unknowingly have a number of HHW(chemicals) stored in their homes, basements and garages, under the kitchen and bathroom sinks or tool houses (sheds). Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients are considered to be household chemicals (HHW). Hanover and Prince George County will be hosting special collection events in April. Please check with locality staff for what items can be brought to this event prior to the actual event date.
