Recycling and Litter Prevention

Help us prevent wind-blown litter and keep your neighborhood clean! Check out these tips for securing your recyclables on windy collection days.
  • If your container is not a cart with a lid, place heavier items on top (like glass bottles and jars) or bagged newspapers to keep lighter plastics and mixed paper from blowing.
  • In case of severe wind gusts, avoid putting open bins/personal containers out if they are less than half full and you do not have heavy items to place on top of lighter ones.
  • Be sure to Cover Your Load when taking household refuse and brush to your local convenience center or public use area. It's the law!
If you would like to volunteer to pick up litter or "adopt" an area, please visit our Litter Prevention webpage to find out more information on how you can help prevent litter where you live.

  • Cardboard can be recycled into new cardboard seven times.
  • Aluminum and steel cans are 100% recyclable over and over and over again!
  • Food and beverage cartons are recycled and made into new products. About 30 cartons turn into a 2'x2' ceiling tile, while 400 cartons make up each wallboard.
  • Recycled glass bottles and jars are processed and can be made into new glass bottles, sun catchers, kitchen counters, etc.
  • Watch our Journey to the MRF video to see how recyclables are sorted and processed once they leave your home or a drop-off recycling collection site.
  • Recycle More with CVWMA. Additional household kitchen, bath, and laundry plastic containers, cups, tubs, and bottles as well as food and beverage cartons have been added to our residential recycling and drop-off recycling programs.
