Building the Global Ecodistricts Standard

Addressing sustainability at the district-scale is critical in helping build just, resilient, resource efficient and healthy cities. Recognizing the need for a consistent approach to sustainable district-scale project implementation, EcoDistricts developed the EcoDistricts Framework in 2009. The Framework supports an upstream, inclusive process to catalyze sustainable neighborhood development that integrates green building, smart infrastructure and robust community engagement and action.
In 2014, EcoDistricts is embarking on a journey to upgrade this Framework and create a global Ecodistricts Standard that brings clarity and definition around ecodistrict projects, provides guidance and support to projects and offers a framework to reward project leadership. We encourage planning and design practitioners, policy makers and community development organizations that are interested in helping us develop the new Ecodistricts Standard to attend this briefing.
