03/24/2020

In our note to you last week, we said that while the challenges we face today are difficult and at times unsettling, the need for civic engagement and community has never been greater—it may just take different forms.

At times like these, the need for connection has never been more critical, making networks like the ELN more important than ever.

Introducing #ELNonline - new digital programming to keep our network connected and engaged. #ELNonline will include online book clubs, webinars and digital mentorship programs, ideal during a time of social distancing. (Just because we’re distant, doesn’t mean we can’t still be social, right?) Check out the details below and stay tuned for other online opportunities in the weeks ahead!

We also want to check in on YOU!  While many of us are doing our part to #flattenthecurve, some are also working on the front lines of this crisis and providing essential services to our communities. We understand that this situation affects everyone, both personally and professionally. How are you feeling about things today? What are you most worried about? And how can the ELN best support you (and your communities) in the days and weeks to come?

We’ve got two opportunities for you to share your thoughts:
Only have five minutes? Share your feedback in our quick online survey. Please note it will be open until Thursday, April 2nd.

Take the Survey
If you’re craving social connection, join us for a virtual lunchtime #ELNonline: Focus Group this coming Thursday, March 26th or Tuesday March 31st.

Register For A Focus Group
All participants in the survey and/or discussion group will be entered to win one of two $50 gift cards to help support a local business of your choice (and yes, if you participate in both, your name will be entered twice!).

Remember, times may be tough, but we’re all in this together. Supporting our frontline workforce, practicing social distancing for those who can, and staying informed through our public health authorities will help greatly during this time.

We look forward to staying connected with you in the days ahead.

The ELN Team
ELNonline: Reads.

#ELNonline: Reads

We’ve all collectively committed to doing our part to physically distance from one another….but that doesn’t mean we can’t be exercising our minds (and internet connections) while we’re doing it!

Introducing #ELNonline: Reads—a gathering of rising leaders who love to read, learn and chat.

We’re kicking things off with Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead which explores the need for brave leadership and how we can all be stronger, more vulnerable leaders in our organizations and communities (sounds timely right about now, eh!?).

We’ll be reading over the next few weeks, and then cozying up in our own homes for a virtual discussion on Thursday April 23rd- BYOT! (Bring Your Own Tea).

Come ready to explore how the learnings around brave leadership can be applied to the tumultuous civic contexts we are facing with COVID-19 and an unknown future ahead.

ELNonline: Mentorship

Introducing #ELNonline: Mentorship!

It goes without saying that feelings of isolation can often come with increased physical distancing.

The good news is that we have the ability to help you and your fellow ELNers connect, network and support each other virtually. Introducing #ELNonline: Mentorship.

We’re leveraging a new tool in the ELN Facebook group that matches members who are interested in participating in online mentorship and facilitates digital meet-ups or chats. ELN members have the choice to be a mentor or a mentee (or potentially both!) and can connect with others as little or as much as they want.

Now is a perfect time to put that extra bit of thought into both your professional and personal development path.

Looking to connect with someone who can give you some advice?  Or feel like you’ve got some wisdom to share? Sign up to be a mentor or mentee today!

MetroNext Awards

Call for nominations!

As Mr Rogers once famously said about times of uncertainty, “Look for the helpers...you will always find people who are helping”. Without question, civic leadership has never been more important than it is today.

Have you been inspired by someone who the world needs to know more about? Have you seen someone go above and beyond to support their community in challenging times? Consider shining a spotlight on them by nominating them for our annual Emerging Leader Award!

Recognizing that these are busy times for many, we’ve made the nomination form short and simple (it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to complete!) and extended the nomination deadline to April 5th.
