Like Key Words: Gut Feel or Research? on Facebook Key Words for Your Website: Have You Done the Research?

by Deborah Chaddock Brown

Have you heard the sales tactic that says people have to hear something several times before they act on it? You are supposed to tell them, tell them again and then tell them you told them.

Well, the whole conversation about using the right key words to improve your website's organic search results is one of those concepts that I need to hear repeated before I take action.

This past weekend my new website went live thanks to the assistance from web developer Crystal Pirri. I updated the content and added some fancy stuff on the side and although it is still a work in progress, I'm pleased.

Writing Websites with Key Words

And then I went to a conference this weekend and presenter Leslie Carruthers of The Search Guru hammered away at the importance of key words.

"Don't think you know the key words people are using - do the research!," said Carruthers.

Not only have I NOT done the research, I don't write my own content with key words in mind. When I write for others, I strategically weave the key words in the content, but just like the shoemaker, I don't follow the same strategy for my own business.

So I invite you to visit my new site AllWrite Ink and the two articles I wrote based on what I learned from Leslie. Great advice that will assist you in improving your search results with the ultimate goal - landing on the first page of search results.

However, as Leslie says - write for human beings first and search engine spiders second. Good advice!

Four top priorities when writing websites

Writing great website content requires key word research

Consider hiring a professional website writer to create and edit your website content to include those key words your prospects are searching.

I have been working with JJ DiGeronimo for about six months on her Purposeful Woman website. She is sharing pieces of information that will be found in her book out later this year. However, what I have found most fascinating is the conversation that has begun to develop on her Facebook fan page. In just a couple months, JJ has taken the site from a couple fans (her and I) to over seven hundred woman all looking for a place to talk about work and family and struggling with attempting to "have it all." Check it out. Purposeful Woman at Facebook.
