This month's newsletter has been put together to give you a flavour of the people who make all the difference at Soanes. 

Congratulations to the BRC team

Thanks to the efforts of Allison, Bestwn and Petra (pictured left to right, above), we're delighted to report that we have recently passed a stringent BRC Food Safety Audit for the second year running.
Our General Manager, Nigel Upson, is delighted with the achievement and said: "This is the first audit since we gained the accreditation last year and the team worked tirelessly to ensure that we passed with the highest grade again."

Meet Melanie Jackson

  1.     What is your job title?  Live Programme Manager
  2.     What does your job involve?  To plan and orchestrate the live birds coming into the business with the highest welfare and bio-security standards. Maintaining our Red Tractor certification.  Ensure all staff are trained in appropriate animal welfare standards and conduct audits to ensure we are fully compliant with our own very high standards. I am also the business’s Health and Safety Officer ensuring safe working conditions for all staff
  1.     How long have you been at Soanes?  29 years’ service in multiple roles
  1.     What did you do before you joined Soanes?  Worked on a farm bagging and sorting potatoes and swedes
  1.     What is the best thing about working at Soanes?  The fact it is a family run business and a small friendly team
  1.     What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?  Walking my dogs as very much like being outdoors and travelling the world learning different cultures
  1.     What’s your favourite chicken based meal?  Traditional Yorkshire Sunday roast with Yorkshire puddings

Meet the grower of our Highly Commended free range chicken

We were very proud that our free range chicken was awarded Highly Commended in the Beverley Food Festival and East Yorkshire Local Food Network awards recently. Pictured above is the grower, Tony Ireland, with Soanes General Manager, Nigel Upson.

Welcome to our new Factory Manager, Richard Cooke

  1. What is your job title?  Factory Manager
  2. What does your job involve?  The role of Factory Manager is fairly new to Soanes and as such still evolving. Currently, I will be overseeing Production and the Loading Bay and am working to improve Safety, Biosecurity & Animal Welfare whilst promoting a sense of teamwork across departments
  3. Where do you live? Hull
  4. What did you do before you joined Soanes?  Production Manager at C&D Foods in Driffield
  5. What is the best thing about working at Soanes?  The people
  6. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?  SCUBA diving. Although I have not had enough time over the last couple of years, I find nothing more relaxing then hovering underwater watching the fish & coral with no sound to disturb. Awesome.  Cooking. I don’t claim to be a chef by any stretch of the imagination, but I do enjoy cooking.  (My kids tell me I’m getting better!)
  7. What’s your favourite meal?  King Prawn Thai Green curry with coconut rice
