Enjoy the taste and health benefits of venison this game season

Game is a healthy, versatile and sustainable alternative to traditional meat products.
Last year, we formed a strategic partnership with a game processor to distribute a wide range of game products locally and to regional wholesalers and we're delighted to continue that association for the 2016 game season. The range includes all game birds, venison, rabbit and hare plus boneless game bird meat. Pack options include retail and wholesale /catering packs and are available both fresh and frozen.

Now is the perfect time to buy wild venison; the deer are in great condition after a summer of abundant feeding on lush pasture. Did you know that venison is very lean and has more protein than any other red meat, which means that it makes you feel fuller for longer, which is great for anyone who is watching their weight.
Venison is rich in iron, which is good for energy levels, especially when we start to flag towards Christmas and is
full of beneficial B vitamins.
It is a very lean meat, so needs cooking quickly and on a high heat. talk to your butcher or follow the link to the Game to Eat website for some recipe ideas using venison.

Have you tried muntjac yet?

Muntjac is one of the smallest varieties of wild deer and has a delicious, subtle flavour. Our rolled, boneless saddle of muntjac is the perfect size for a midweek roast for four people, and very healthy, too! The My Taste website has some great advice for cooking muntjac and some great recipes for you to try.
Welcome, Claire Wright
We're delighted to introduce you to the newest member of the Soanes senior management team. Claire Wright recently joined us as Financial Controller and here we give you an insight into what makes her tick!
 
  1.     What is your job title? Financial Controller
  2.     What does your job involve? This is a new role that has been created by Soanes due to both business and turnover growth and future expansion plans.  Essentially, I am responsible for the financial management of the business.
  3.     Where do you live? Seaton
  4.     How long have you been at Soanes? Since 18th July
  5.     What did you do before you joined Soanes? I was employed as Financial Controller at a specialist plastics manufacturing company.  They produce vacuum bags for use within the food and pharmaceutical industry.
  6.     What is the best thing about working at Soanes? There are a few! I enjoy working with people throughout the company and do my best to promote that being an accountant does not automatically mean I am boring! I also enjoy working in an industry linked to agriculture and finally, I can now enjoy the drive to work without being stuck in traffic for most of the journey.
  7.     What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working? I enjoy horse riding.  I like breaking young horses in and bringing them on to compete.  I currently compete in affiliated horse trials.
  8.     What’s your favourite chicken based meal and where would you most enjoy eating it? My favourite would be chicken fillet, stuffed with stilton wrapped in parma ham.  I would enjoy it most on a warm, sunny day, in the garden at home (somebody else having cooked it!) with friends, family, Pimms and a party atmosphere.

Finalists in the Business of 2016 with a green ethos award

We're very proud to have reached the final of the Business of 2016 with a green ethos category in the Chamber Bridlington and Yorkshire Coast Business Awards. One of our green initiatives is the installation of a Heat Recovery System that was recently visited by our local MP, Graham Stuart (picture left above, left) who said:

“The heat recovery equipment that Soanes has installed is amazing in its simplicity and effectiveness, giving huge benefits to the business and helping our environmental targets for carbon reduction.
 
“I believe this technology could be a real success in the UK and I will be supporting the cause to get it on the map. This should be a consideration for all refrigeration systems.”

The winners of the awards will be announced on 14th October - wish us luck!

The 11th annual Beverley Food Festival, organised by Beverley Town Council, takes place on October 2 and we're delighted to be supporting the event and sponsoring our first ever local food festival.

Our support will help towards building the infrastructure of the Cookery Theatre Marquee where seven renowned local chefs will be creating dishes using produce sourced primarily from East Yorkshire.

The Food Festival takes place in the centre of the beautiful market town of Beverley between 9.30am and 4pm on Sunday and it's free to enter. We look forward to seeing you and signposting you to our fabulous Beverley stockists.
