|AMERICORPS VISTA TURNS 45!
In honor of VISTA's 45th Birthday and National AmeriCorps Week (May 8-15), this month's Corps Report is dedicated to CYCA's Good Works for Youth VISTA program.
WHAT IS AMERICORPS VISTA?
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program designed to fight poverty. VISTA provides full-time members to non-profit, faith-based and other community organizations, and public agencies to create and expand programs that ultimately bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty. VISTA members commit to a year of service and build capacity through indirect service at their host sites.
Good Works for Youth VISTAs gathered in Estes Park for training and networking, October 2009
CYCA's Good Works for Youth program currently has 29 VISTA members placed at 22 host sites, both at youth corps and other environmental youth serving organizations around the state. The goal of CYCA's VISTA program is to improve and increase services for youth living in poverty and connect them to their communities and the environment.
CYCA will expand its VISTA program this summer by adding 25 VISTA Summer Associates at 10 host sites for an 8-week summer session. For more information about this program, contact Alicia Oletski at email@example.com.
