Welcome to Your February 2015 eNewsletter!

The newest title in the Delta Teacher Development Series, Going Mobile, discusses how teachers can embrace technology in the classroom and enhance English language teaching with hand-held devices.
Going Mobile is the first book of its kind. It addresses one important thing that every student is thinking - if each of us, and our teacher too, owns a smart phone or a tablet, why are they still outlawed in the classroom?

Going Mobile introduces us to how mobile devices can be implemented in a curriculum, and talks about the benefits to teaching with the technology that students use on a daily basis.

We love it because it is both simple and practical - Going Mobile provides classroom activities for teachers to use. These activities come in a wide range and often use technology in unexpected, yet simple, ways. The goal in all of them remains the same: to get students engaged and learning.

New photocopiable resource book of 50 original speaking activities to engage students in authentic interaction.
Speaking Games is a new book by the author of Role Plays for Today and Teamwork. It offers 50 ways for teachers to get their students talking in class and learning English without even realizing it!

The photocopiable activities come in the form of board games, card games, quizzes, puzzles and challenges, so there is something in there for every student. As an added element, each game comes with a "rules of the game" handout so you can get your students reading as well as talking.

Many people believe that books are going the way of the dodo, but we are very pleased to announce that 2014 was our most successful year to date! A digital product (EnglishCentral.com) did become our bestselling product, but our book sales grew as well.

To celebrate, we have made a book donation to Pathways to Education (see below). We would also like to thank all of you for your continued support. Our success would not be possible without our loyal customers. We will not just thank you with words, though, we will also thank you with a gift: while qantities last, get your choice of a Pentel whiteboard double marker and eraser set or a copy of IELTS Target 5.0. Whether you come into our Toronto showroom or shop online, just say "Congratulations on your best year ever!" to claim your gift.

A web-based language learning tool, English Central allows students to interact with thousands of authentic videos, and teachers to assign and assess.
In 2014, English Central became our best selling product and it is clear why: it is a way to blend fun with learning in this digital age. English Central can be used for the classroom or individually, making it ideal for many English language learners and teachers.

And now English Central is going mobile! The new year brings the release of the English Central app, available from iTunes or Google Play. We're excited about giving students the ability to learn on the go. Now you can watch a video while on the bus, or take a quiz while waiting for a friend. That kind of ease and convenience will have students mastering the English language in no time!

Here at English Central, we always love to see books put to good use, and what could be better than using them to help students who are at risk? Because 2014 was such a successful year for us, we decided to donate a large number of books to Pathways to Education, one of our favourite local (originally, at least) organizations.

Pathways to Education was founded in Toronto in 2001 and has since expanded to offer programs across Canada. Their goal is to keep youth from low-income neighbourhoods in school, and to help them get to college and university. Using a comprehensive set of academic, financial, and social supports, Pathways to Education has succeeded in reducing the high school dropout rates by as much as 70 percent, and increasing the rate at which youth go to college or university by up to 300 percent.
