STARTcast Returns with Season 2!

STARTcast, START's podcast for early- and mid-career scientists, is back with a second season! This time it's all about the Future Resilience for African Cities and Lands (FRACTAL) project, with particular focus on transdisciplinary approaches used to support resilience and adaptation decision making in nine southern African cities. Episode 1, on “Climate information distillation and the narrative approach to climate information,” is available now.

Episode 2, on "Context driven learning lab processes," will be released on Tuesday, 15 June!

ProGREEN Capacity Development: The Virtual Advanced Institute is being held this week, 7-11 June 2021

From 7-11 June 2021, START will convene a multi-module Advanced Institute (AI) for competitively selected participants from Burkina Faso, Senegal and Morocco, focused on renewable energy themes that emerged as priorities from the ProGREEN country assessment reports. This is a key component of ProGREEN Phase 2 where the focus will be on putting learning into action and enhancing capacity strengthening endeavors with early career scientists and professionals. 

ProGREEN Webinar on Renewable Energy and Education

Following the renewable energy assessments conducted in Burkina Faso and Senegal, the ProGREEN team has now turned its attention to preparing for phase II of the project. This phase kicked off with the first of a series of webinars on May 5, 2021 with a webinar entitled "Renewable Energy and Education: Improving Training, and Research to support Renewable Energy transitions in West Africa."

Science Leadership Training for the 2nd FLAIR Cohort and for CR4D Fellows

In March, START convened a science leadership training course for the African Academy of Sciences’ FLAIR fellows and the Climate Research for Development (CR4D) fellows. Thirty FLAIR fellows and 20 CR4D fellows completed the course, which explored issues of personality types and leadership styles, strategic influencing, gender and power dynamics, emotional intelligence, adaptive management and effective communications among other topics.
