CONGRATULATIONS TO ODETTE HORNBY! - Pure Bio is proud to have helped sponsor Odette on her recent relief work in Tanzania.
From Odette: "I would like to say a huge thank you to Pure Bio.
The trip was an amazing experience and created long lasting change in the communities we worked in. For the first 4 weeks I was involved in a water, sanitation and hygiene project. This involved creating an all girls toilet block. In Tanzania nearly 80% of girls drop out of school when they hit puberty due to the lack of hygiene and sanitation. Currently the girls toilets at the school had no doors and were open for everyone to see and had very little hygiene.
We also taught the villagers the importance of hand hygiene and washing hands after using the toilet and before preparing food.
The next 3 weeks I was in Tanzania, I took part in a trek. This allowed us to explore more of the rural Tanzania and showed us the deeper side of the communities."

DAILY YOGHURT CONSUMPTION LEADS TO BETTER BONE HEALTH - Healthy postmenopausal women who eat at least one serving of yogurt a day have a lower body mass index (BMI), less fat, and better bone density than women who never consume yogurt, according to latest research.
Over time, women who ate yogurt also had less cortical bone loss than women who never ate it, and this was independent of any other factor that could account for differences in bone density, such as physical activity and total calcium intake.
Yogurt is a source of nutrients, in particular calcium and protein, but it also contains fermented dairy products and probiotics, all of which are potentially beneficial for bone health.

UPDATED // Healthy postmenopausal women who consume yogurt every day are leaner and have better bone health than women who never eat yogurt, independent of calcium intake and physical activity. Read more medscape.com

INDOLE-3-CARBINOL COMBATS AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION (AMD) - Broccoli - or more specifically its active constituent, I3C - has been shown to combat AMD by detoxifying the retina, in the same way that it does the liver. This is enhanced even further when used alongside omega-3 fatty acids.
Boosting potency of broccoli-related compound for age-related macular degeneration: Palmitoleic acid protects the retina from environmental damage in mouse models of disease
Researchers boosted the potency of a broccoli-related compound by 10 times and identified it as a possible treatment for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss affecting more than 10 million older Americans. The research also highlights the role of lipid metabolism. Read more sciencedaily.com

Product Focus
Viridian Bone Complex

Viridian's Bone Complex is an advanced formulation providing highly bio-available forms of calcium and magnesium, along with the synergistic support of vitamin K1 and K2. The formula provides calcium and magnesium on a 1:1 ratio and is free of oxide and carbonated forms of minerals, to maximise absorption rates.
Bone density increases up to the age of 30, after which there is a gradual and progressive loss of density, particularly in the absence of calcium and its co-factors. This is further exacerbated by a diet high in carbohydrates and protein, and lack of activity.
Magnesium  supports bone health by stimulating the thyroid's production of calcitonin, and regulating parathyroid hormone - a function of which is to regulate bone breakdown.
Vitamin K enhances bone formation by caboxylating osteocalcin. This enables osteocalcin to bind to calcium and promote healthy bone mineralisation.
Other ways to support healthy bone mass:
  • Reduce Sodium intake
  • Increase intake of fruit and vegetables
  • Limit intake of coffee and alcohol, both of which leech calcium from bone
  • Introduce regular weight-bearing exercise
Please note: Vitamin K or any products containing Vitamin K should not be taken in conjunction with blood thinning medication
