As it has probably been for you, it’s been a busy summer here at Chez Hogan.
Chase Me Released
My second Underbelly Chronicles book, CHASE ME
, was released in June. CHASE ME
follows archaeologist Lorin Schlessinger and geologist and metallurgist Gabe Lupinsky as they discover some otherworldly items—and an inconvenient attraction to each other—at an archaeological site located in northern Minnesota.
While researching four-season archaeological practices, I had the pleasure of interviewing Bruce Koenen, an archaeologist at the Minnesota Office of the State Archaeologist, about how a site located in the northern part of the state, with its ore-laden land, relatively recent glacial history, and hard winters, would be managed. “Minnesota ain’t Egypt,” said Bruce. Truer words never spoken!
July was all about promoting CHASE ME
with signings and a blog tour, and then gearing up for the Romance Writers of America’s annual national conference, held this year in Anaheim. The week of the National Conference is like running a very pleasant week-long marathon. Pacing oneself is definitely recommended!
Crammed into that week:
Disneyland with Mark!
A full-day tour of the LAPD’s training facilities with the Kiss of Death RWA chapter
Lunch with one of my favorite writers, Nalini Singh **squee**
The 500-author-strong “Readers for Life” Literacy Signing
Pizza, wine, and catching up with my Ruby Slippered Sisterhood blogmates
Workshops, workshops, workshops! My friend Susan Sey and I presented a workshop on developing three-dimensional villains called “Superbad: How Unleashing Your Villain Can Unlock Your Story.”
Awards! TASTE ME, my first book, was named a “Best Dark Paranormal” finalist in the RWA Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal Chapter’s Prism Awards. To my surprise, I won! In an even bigger surprise, TASTE ME was also named “Best First Book” and “Best of the Best!”
Writing! Being I had an early August deadline for TEMPT ME, I had to get some work done, too—typically from 6:00 a.m.– 8:00 a.m. No rest for the wicked. ;-)
The Underbelly Chronicles
In early August, I turned the manuscript for my third book, TEMPT ME, in to my editor. TEMPT ME is reformed hacker Bailey Brown and sculptor Rafe Sebastiani’s story. I’ve gotten an early glimpse at the cover treatment, and yeah, my cover artist Aleta Rafton hit it out of the park once again. How can she make a snowstorm look utterly hot?
Underbelly Chronicles Book Four doesn’t have a title yet, but I can report that reading a book called “Vampire Forensics” in public definitely gets you a second glance or two.
Until next time, keep on reading!
