MCEC Inducted into Military
Spouse Employment Program
The MCEC joined a distinguished list of employers participating in the Department of Defense Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP). The effort is aimed at meeting employment needs of over 1.2 million military spouses. Corporate partners, including MCEC, are committed to providing meaningful and portable career opportunities to the estimated 85% of military spouses who want or need to work. As an MSEP partner, the MCEC must meet the high expectations set by the program and go above and beyond in recruiting, hiring and retaining military spouses. MCEC sees the program as a critical component in strengthening military families and benefitting our military-connected students.

Certification Renewal
Military Child Education Coalition recently received a renewed certification by IACET, marking our fifth year as an Authorized Provider with the organization. IACET is the premier standards-setting entity for continuing education and training, and the organization promotes established standards as a benchmark for quality program delivery. IACET Authorized Providers are considered an elite group of educators dedicated to quality in continuing education and training. As an Authorized Provider, MCEC processes must follow the ANSI/IACET 1-2007 Standard for Continuing Education and Training which have been thoroughly assessed by a third party.

Fluor Support Continues

The Fluor Corporation demonstrated its commitment to military-connected children by being a signature sponsor of this year’s Space Camp program. Fluor also joined the MCEC Growing a Community of Support campaign by sponsoring a high school and middle school through the Student to Student (S2S) and Junior Student to Student (JS2S) Programs. Additionally, Fluor highlighted MCEC efforts through its charity challenge at this year’s AUSA conference in Washington, D.C., resulting in a $2,000 gift to the organization. We are honored by the ongoing support provided by the Fluor Corporation in recognition of military-connected children around the world.

“During my time at the Advanced Space Academy, I learned about the science, difficulty, and risks of space travel.  I was able to participate in several mission simulations, which made me feel as though I was actually piloting a shuttle!  There were also several non-space related activities in which I participated, and enjoyed just as much.  The whole camp was absolutely amazing!” – Nikolos A. van Leer/ Woodbridge, Virginia/ Navy family member

Tell Me A Story
Event Sponsored by Toyota of Killeen
LTG Donald M. Campbell Jr., III Corps and Fort Hood Commander, and his wife, Ann, greeted families on Ft. Hood before reading a book as part of the MCEC Tell Me A Story event sponsored by Toyota of Killeen. Dozens of youngsters crowded into the cafeteria to enjoy the fourth event in an ongoing series made possible by a $10,000 gift from Toyota of Killeen. “We just appreciate our military and want to support their families in any way we can. This reading initiative fits right into that,” said Paula Lohse, Principal of the local dealership. Local community support is vital to the expansion of these family friendly, early education oriented events.
