Academy of Richmond County (Augusta, GA) - Academy of Richmond County hosted a "Franks and Friday Night Lights" Tailgate for military-connected students and parents for Homecoming. They are planning a Military Appreciation Pizza Night for November and have an Ice Cream Social in the works to celebrate The Month of the Military Child next April.
Killeen High School (Killeen, TX) - KHS S2S introduced 174 new students to their high school. Their 40 second-year S2S Team Members have logged 692 volunteer hours using the Find the Way model. They designed their own personalized badges and t-shirts and trained-up 15 new students to the program to put them at 55 members with 7 officers as they kick-off this year.
Guam High School (Agana Heights, Guam) - Guam High School hosted an amazing Lollipop Social to kick-off their year! They also hosted a "Farewell Luau" for those students departing GHS over the summer. The luau was Hawaiian-themed with snacks and parting gifts ("I love Guam" key chains and leis).
For this school year, their group partnered with the Student Government Association, to host the New Student Orientation on August 24, 2015 which was attended by most of the students new to Guam High School.
Tarver Elementary School (Belton, TX) - The sponsors host a Military Mondays Lunch Group each week for their military-connected students. They also have a Hero Wall for students to share pictures of family members who serve!
Pinecrest High School (Carthage, NC) - Carthage S2S hosted a â€œLunch-Inâ€ Pizza Lunch for new students and are currently planning a tailgate mixer.
Richland Northeast High School (Columbia, SC) - Richland Northeast S2S hosted a â€œNew to RNEâ€ Lunch Group to welcome new students. They have set goals to focus on building relationships, school involvement, and community resources.
Virginia Allred Stacey Jr./Sr. High (San Antonio, TX) - Virginia Allred Stacey Jr./Sr. High S2S presented their National Training Seminar (NTS) experience to the Lackland ISD Board Meeting. They recently made a youtube video, cooked and hosted a luncheon for the schoolâ€™s maintenance and custodial staff, and wrote â€œThank Youâ€ cards for each member of the schoolâ€™s maintenance and custodial staff.
MCEC hosted the eS2S collaboration for both Belton and Killeen ISD elementary school faculty and staff in September. Teams met to discuss their progress thus far and learned valuable tools to help grow and enhance their programs. We are grateful for their dedication and willingness to go above and beyond for their students.
Kimberly McHugh, M.Ed. joins our Student Programs Team as Assistant Program Manager. Kimberly worked previously for MCEC as a Parent to Parent Team Lead at both Ft. Irwin, CA and Ft. Bliss, TX and as a field researcher and Surge presenter for MCEC also.
She has enjoyed her experiences as a Master Educator, Reading Specialist, classroom teacher, community college instructor, private remediation and enrichment specialist, and contributing writer for a fashion and entertainment magazine during her professional career.
She is an enthusiastic Army Wife who has followed her soldier around the United States and overseas for the past 26 years. Her husband Brian and she are proud parents of three sons: Connor (an ROTC junior at Baylor University), Dylan (an ROTC sophomore at Baylor University), and Mason (a 7th grader at St. Mary's School). She believes in â€œblooming where you are plantedâ€ and is thrilled to have the opportunity to work at MCEC Headquarters in Harker Heights while her husband is stationed at Ft. Hood.
In her leisure time, Kimberly is an Army family programs volunteer. She also loves to read, travel, and garden in the central Texas sunshine.
