From the Board

At our August 29th meeting, your Co-op board confirmed Regina Grosby to the position of Store Manager. Regina is a long time employee with a wide ranging knowledge of store operations, and a bright outlook. We believe that Regina is the right person to move the co-op forward at this time. Already, staff and customers have experienced improved relations, a friendlier environment and better service.  Regina has a list of plans and ideas to improve the store, and she is happy to hear your comments and suggestions as well.

Be sure to save the date, Saturday October 29, for our Fifth Anniversary Celebration and Annual Owner Meeting. Planning is underway to  make this event festive, informative, and tasty for all who attend. The anniversary celebration will last all day with product sampling and special sale pricing, and at noon the Co-op will provide lunch for owners attending the annual meeting before the 1 PM start of the meeting. In addition to reporting board election results and store financial performance, we will have time for owner input.

We wish to encourage all owners who are financially able to pay up to the $300 full ownership share. We currently have almost $150,000 in share capital outstanding, as only forty-five percent of our owner/members are fully paid. Expediting payment of half of this sum in the next few months would allow us to make capital improvement to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the Co-op.

For the Board of Directors

Co-op News

Greetings PFC owners and customers,

I am delighted to accept the position as store manager. I have worked at PFC since it was Noah's Ark Natural Foods. I began as a cashier and started in the wellness department in January of 2014. I love the co-op, our customers, and our community! I cannot wait to get started on some very exciting new projects. ~Stay tuned for updates~

You may have noticed some empty spots on our shelves, or some delays in special order requests, we apologize and appreciate your patience as we refine our ordering schedule. We have several new employees and several employees transitioning into new jobs and roles.

Please feel free to use our communication board (near the elevator) or email me directly with your questions and/or suggestions.

Thank you,
Regina, Store Manager

September means beautiful days and cooler nights.  Changes in the season have been mirrored by changes in the Co-Op as well.  In order to widen our inter-departmental cross training we are implementing the following personnel changes: Haley and Carly are moving out of the cashier pool and into Center Store in the Health and Wellness and Grocery departments.  Zac is moving out of Center Store and into the Front End as a cashier, and I have hired three other cashiers as well.  Please welcome the return of Jonathan, and our new cashiers Lily and Terri. Every day we are finding more effective ways of providing the best customer service to you - our valued Co-Op shoppers.

Come on by and say hello!
Lorna, Front End Manager

Fall is in the air, be ready for varieties of locally grown squash and pumpkin. Help me in welcoming a new member of the Produce Team Eric Dunkle.  Eric is from the town of El Dorado and grew up in Apple Hill.  He started working with produce in 2007 and has loved it ever since.  Eric is very happy and excited to be a part of the Co-Op family and is very enthusiastic to be working with our local farmers.

See you soon,
Nathan, Produce Manager

Meet the Staff:
Having worked for Noah's for nearly twelve years and then for Placerville Food Co-op since it's beginning five years ago, Jeremy has been working in this building longer than any of the rest of the staff.   You can find him here five days a week, just like clock work!  Jeremy says his favorite part of working at the co-op is getting to know the customers, the staff and attending Bill's yoga class.  As can be imagined, he has seen many, many changes here over the years, from staffing to products and even a major remodeling of the building.  "There used to be only one floor," he says.

This friendly man can be found helping to maintain the building and grounds or, most recently, keeping the deli staff moving along by making sure they have clean dishes and utensils to work with.  The whole staff appreciates Jeremy and words like "dependable" and "positive" come to mind when we think of him.

When he isn't working, Jeremy's favorite activities are attending Giants games (a big fan!) and hanging out with friends. Be sure to say hi to Jeremy next time you're in the store!
A WORD FROM THE DELI
Greetings from the Kitchen and Deli. Please keep a lookout for Housemade Bacon coming within the next 2 weeks. We currently are also stocking the shelf with our Housemade Breakfast Sausages. We will also be changing some items in our sandwich section, so please keep a lookout for these new items. We are currently serving brunch items from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm every Sunday! Come in and check out our new in-house items!

Brandon, Deli Manager
NEW AT THE CO-OP
Bulk liquid soaps, shampoo and cleaners. Dr. Bronner's soaps, Shikai, EO, BioKleen, unscented massage oil, and more!

Bring your own container or buy one. We will have a basket to leave your clean, empty bottles so others can use them if they do not have one.

We look forward adding more sustainable practices to PFC.
TO OUR OWNERS
It’s exciting to realize we are coming up on our fifth anniversary as Placerville Food Co-op!  Thanks to all of you, our owner-members, who are helping to make this co-op a valuable and integral part of the community.   We hope that you are already finding your investment in the co-op to be worthwhile and expect that in the future you will be even more glad that you have joined.  Your encouragement  to others to shop here will help us continue to grow and become more of what we all need in a locally owned (by you!) and operated market.  I would like to remind you that in opening an owner-member account here, you did agree that your account would only be used by members of your household.  Please do not discourage others from becoming members themselves, by giving them permission to use your account.  The more community members invest in our co-op, the better off it will be for all of us.  Next month you will have the opportunity to cast your ballot for our new board directors, attend the annual owner meeting and celebrate how far we’ve come in the last five years.
