Role of the Board of Directors
By Robynn Paxton Katz, Vice President
Have you ever wondered what your Board of Directors do for the Placerville Co-op? The Board is always working to ensure the Co-op’s successful future. We do not typically involve ourselves with the day to day operations of the store but 2016 was quite challenging for the Co-op. We had to temporarily step into the role of operations management until we could work through several staffing issues and find the right person to lead us. These things are never easy but thanks to the hard work & dedication of your new manager, Regina, and her staff – these challenges were met with grace and determination.
With things running smoothly in the store we are now back to operating in a more normal and productive manner. At our meetings we work to evaluate our store manager’s performance, discuss our goals for the store, strategize and appoint our officers to the Board. We had our first meeting as a new board on Monday, Dec. 19th. I am happy to report that you’ve elected some very skilled, innovative and efficient people. John LePouvoir will continue to lead us as Board President and I am now serving as Vice President. We will be filling the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Secretary at our January meeting. We also began the process of establishing new committees to address Community Outreach, Board Recruitment/Development, 2017 Elections and Ownership /Membership Growth.
This year we will be posting our goals with regular progress updates. We also plan to post the results of your ownership contributions. We would like to welcome all new owners and express our gratitude to those that were able to pay your memberships in full. We encourage any owners who are able to please pay into or pay off your memberships. We currently have over $150,000 in unpaid memberships and are offering any owner that pays their ownership in full or pays off any remaining balance a $20 gift card.
We hope to utilize these funds as they become available for many store operations improvements, training and staffing needs. Some of the larger projects we have in mind are updating our outdated Point of Sale system and starting construction to improve our outdoor dining area near the front entrance.
As always, please let us know if you are interested in volunteering any of your time to these projects. Your help and insights are invaluable to us and if you haven’t had the opportunity to attend a monthly Board meeting, they are open to all members. Our meetings are held on the last Monday of every month at 6 PM. Please consider attending. We love guests and appreciate your presence. Our next meeting is Monday, January 30th.
We hope to see you then and wish you all a Happy New Year!
