Placerville Food Co-op

UPCOMING & ONGOING EVENTS

Placerville Food Co-op

Volunteer to make a difference in your community!

Volunteer your time and smiles for the "Build Your Co-op" effort.  In the coming weeks we'll be launching our Community Co-op Loan and Donor Campaign, and we'll need lots of help to realize the dream of the Placerville Natural Foods Co-op.

There'll be plenty of ways to help, from calling potential donors, to planning a fund (and fun!)-raising event, to helping out at the some of the  events.

Please contact our volunteer coordinator Janette Dodge to find out how you can help: janette.dodge@hotmail.com

Become a Member!

Membership forms are now available at Noah's or by download:

Print out both sides, fill out completely and return with your full or partial membership payment to the address provided on the form. It's that easy to become a member!

Donate!
We can take donations!*  Your donations are essential in these formative days as various legal, printing, and other expenses come in, and especially as we enter into the formal "buying negotiations" and the mass of inspections, etc we'll be paying for.  Your donation, no matter how small (even $1 helps us buy essentials like printing for surveys and brochures, paper clips, etc) help grow the Co-op. You can call as at 530-626-7794 for more information on Member Loans and Donations to help make your Co-op grow!

*(Please note: Your donations are not tax-deductible. Co-ops are not "non-profits," but your donations are essential.)

We now accept PayPal payments for memberships or donations to the general fund. Simply log into you PayPal account and 'send' money to: pvillefoodcoop@gmail.com
You can pay in full or make payments!

Locavore Dinner a smashing success!

Our deep thanks to everyone that organized, attended, helped out, or donated to our First Annual "Locavore Dinner" at the Lion's Club in Diamond Springs.

Two great chef's, Jason and Lauren, prepared a fabulous meal for over 75 attendees, all foods provided by local farms and farmers. High praise for the food was heard throughout the hall, as people ate, chatted, enjoyed and listened to live music from Frank & Daniel.

Many thanks to all of the businesses and individuals who donated items to the silent auction and event, and all the lucky attendees who bid on and went home with some wonderful locally made or produced items (olive oil, art work, jewelry and more).

This event, our largest fundraiser to date, was the living embodiment of the kind of community we're trying to build, and an example of the kind of sustainable & local community food system we're trying to foster and create with the Co-op.

There were a few "oops" along the way, for which we sincerely apologize (too many good people, not enough good food), but with your help, next year's (should we do it more than once a year?) will be bigger, better, and, as hard as it might be to imagine, yummier still!

National Co-op Month

October is National Co-op Month!

Look for posters around town and donate $1.00.
Help the Placerville Natural Foods Co-op a reality in 2011!

Membership News:

131 Members and Counting: That's a 31% increase since we reached our initial goal of 100 members in August.

And the Winner Is: 16 names were submitted during the Name the Co-op Campaign that began when we reached the 100 member mark. And the winner is...

Placerville Natural Foods Co-operative

This is now our official name!

Our new goal is to double our membership by the end of the year. That means we have to sign up 69 more people before Jan 1, 2011 to reach 200 members. That's a pretty easy goal if everyone receiving this newsletter signs up, and gets two or three friends or relatives to join as well. If you are already a member sign up a friend or relative.  Use your email lists, FaceBook page, or bike club to get your friends on board.
Our strength lies in our numbers, so join and be counted!

UPCOMING CO-OP EVENTS

Holiday Co-op Bazaar:
December 11, 2010 12:00-6:00 Upstairs at Noah's Ark
Do your holiday shopping and support the Co-op while you're at it. This is a cross between a rummage sale and a crafts' faire.
Shop for holiday items like lights, figurines, decorations, and toys. We'll also have local crafts, body care, gift baskets, baked goods and surprises.

This event happens on the same day as the Second Saturday Co-op Informational Meeting so plan to stay and hear the latest co-op updates. If you have gently used holiday items you no longer need, donate them to the Holiday Co-op Bazaar.

Cans for the Co-op- Bring your "CA CRV redemption" (California Redemption Value) recyclables (most often plastic, glass or aluminum bottled or canned water, soda, drinks, or small juice bottles) to Noah's Ark.  Leave them in the side yard by the dumpsters, and our volunteer will recycle them for cash. Cans for the co-op is currently netting about $70.00/mo. Only a very few people are participating so there is still untapped potential on this project. Don't be shy, and please don't forget to remove the caps and tops off the bottles.  Caps and tops have to be removed for us to be able to recycle them, and it adds a lot of work for our volunteers.  And please do not drop off your general recyclables. CRV only! Thanks.

Change for the Co-op - Just drop your change in the canister  at the register at Noah's. If you own a business and would be willing to have a "Change for the Co-op" cannister in your store please let Melisa know and she will deliver one.

INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS

Melisa Clark, General Manager at Noah's Ark and Steering Committee member, will be hosting an informational meeting upstairs at Noah's Ark every second Saturday of the month between 4:00 - 6:00pm. This is the place to come if you have questions or if you want to get involved in the Co-op, whether you're a member or not.

Next General Co-op Info meeting is October 9, 2010

Next Steering Committee Meeting -

(Open to all Co-op Members)

If you are a fully or partially paid member of the Placerville Food Co-op and would like to attend the next Steering Committee meeting, please contact Melisa and let her know.
