What's New at the Store
by Melisa Clark, General Manager
Happy New Year to all of our Co-op Owners!

2015 is sure to be an exciting year for the Placerville Co-op. We will be working to improve your Co-op to bring you the best possible value, a broad product selection and a more enjoyable shopping experience in 2015.
In the deli we will be introducing an Entree and Soup Schedule so that you will always know when your favorite selection is being offered. We will also have our signature soups(African Peanut, Lemon Chicken and Turkey Chili) available everyday for you to take home and heat at your leisure.
In January we will begin to charge $.10 for bags at the register. PNFC spends $20,000/year to provide paper bags to our customers and charging a fee is a great way to remind everyone to bring their own bag every time they shop at the Co-op. Co-op Owners can participate in the use and return bag program that was started last year. You can get all the details from your cashier on your next visit.
Perhaps the best news is that the PNFC Board of Directors recently hired CDS consultant Garland McQueen to serve as our interim GM. I invite you to join the store staff and myself in extending a warm welcome to Garland upon his arrival on February 1. 2015. The Co-op staff and I are excited to have the opportunity to train with Garland as he applies his knowledge and expertise to our Co-op so that we can optimize our success and build a thriving and profitable community market.
Thank you for your support in 2014. I look forward to seeing you again in 2015.
"The Co-op! Together we built it! Together we own it!"

THE CO-OP NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!

IT'S AN EXCITING TIME FOR PNFC! A professional Co-op consultant is coming to work with our store staff on improving store processes and operations,(See General Manager Melisa's article). This will be an exciting and challenging time for all of us.The Board, Management and Staff will be learning, developing and growing, all to the good of our much-loved Co-op!
WE are asking YOU to support this process of change and improvement. The actions we take now as a Co-op community will determine our store's future success. Owners are truly the backbone and strength of any Co-op, and you provide support in a variety of ways, from paying membership fees to shopping and volunteering.
Garland, our new consultant, has an excellent background in improving processes for food cooperatives, and we project that his improvements will generate a significant increase in sales. Additional capital at this time will allow more flexibility in improving our bottom line and achieving sustained profitability.
One of the ways that you can be part of your Co-op's success is to participate in our annual "Co-op Capital Funding" campaign.
Here are some ways that you can participate:
1. Owner equity payments ($300.00 or $25.00/quarter) are our main source of capital funding so making your payments on time is critical. If you have already paid your owner equity in full, "Thank you!" If you haven't yet but are able to do so at this time it would be greatly appreciated. Owner equity payments can be made at the cash register or by mail.
2. Want to help even more? You can make a loan to your Co-op for $1,000 or more. (For additional information contact a Director about this--see the Board Roster in this newsletter.)
3. Shop the Co-op! And encourage your friends & family to shop there, too. This is basic and important support of your Co-op.
The Board of Directors will be calling PNFC members to ask for your support in reaching our funding goals. We hope to raise over $15,000 in January alone.
*Capital funds are used for operational expenses, equipment, store improvements etc.

For those of you who enjoy looking at graphs, follow this link to a graph of our co-op's growth over the past three years. ( PNFC Owner Graphs) Since starting with 270 owner/members in October of 2011, we have added nearly 1000 to our numbers!
Of course it is our desire to see this trend continue and to that end we are running a promotion for the month of January. Any new owner who signs up this month will have their name added to a drawing for a $100. gift card. So, if you know anyone who has been considering becoming an owner/member of our co-op, encourage them to do it this month!
