From the General Manager

PNFC General Manager

It is difficult to believe that I have been here two months. I am looking forward to the summer in Placerville.
Our recent Member Appreciation Day was very popular at the Co-op, so we have decided to make this the second Friday of each month. On these days, all members will receive 10% off their entire purchase.
If you have not been in the Co-op recently, we encourage you to visit and see if you notice any changes or improvements. In the coming weeks, we plan to reset the Produce area for presentation to better showcase our local grower offerings. There will also be updates in the grocery, frozen food, and refrigerated.
PNFC will be sponsoring the annual Earth Day Celebration on April 25th. Please join us between 10:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M at the Placerville Library for this event.
The sales of your Co-op continue to climb as we enter the summer months, and this trend is expected to continue. All this is due to the support of our owners and the efforts of our staff. I am thankful for both parties.
I look forward to meeting all of you as you shop in the Co-op. If there are any issues or concerns, feel free to contact me at garland@placervillecoop.org. I will respond to all e-mails as quickly as possible.
Thank you,
Garland McQueen
General Manager
Placerville Natural Food Co-operative.

From the Board

President, PNFC Board of Directors

March 31, 2015
At last evening’s Board of Directors meeting the board finalized the Job Announcement we will use to recruit and hire a permanent General Manager. The job announcement will be released today, and it will be posted on the Co-op’s website and circulated through electronic media to a wide audience in the Cooperative Grocery Industry.
Since February 1, when our Interim General Manager, Garland Mcqueen came on staff, we have been seeing marked improvement in the operating results at the store, and March 2015 will be the best sales month in the Co-op’s history. But Garland’s contract with us is for only six months and so in order to maintain the momentum we are now building, and to bring the store to long term sustainability, we need to provide for a strong, experienced management going forward from this summer.
By a resolution, the board designated directors Todd Grosby, Karen Wolfenden and board president John Le Pouvoir as the Search Committee. The committee, with advice from Garland, and assistance from our consultants at CDS Consulting Co-op, will be receiving applications, and conducting screening and initial interviews as applications are received during April. After the April 30 closing date of the announcement, the final interviews and selection will be taken up by the entire board. Our goal is to complete the hiring in time to allow a period of transition in July before Garland’s departure.

Thanks to many of you who have been making efforts to pay off or pay down your membership accounts. Your investment and confidence in the co-op is most appreciated! Great things are in store (pun intended)!
Starting this month, all completed Lunch Punch cards will be entered into a quarterly drawing. The winner will receive two free lunch items on us (soup, salad, sandwich)! Be sure to get your cards punched when purchasing a sandwich, ready-made green salad or medium to large size soup and be sure your owner number is on your card when it is completed.
If you are a business owner as well as a co-op owner/member, have you heard about the business directory we are putting together? So far everybody thinks it is a great idea, but the submissions are coming in quite slowly! If you would like to have your business listed in this directory, please fill out one of the forms found inside the store. This directory will likely be available online through our website and possibly in printed format as well. We will also soon have a business card display rack inside the store for the purpose of advertising for and supporting those who support us! There are forms in the front of the store for those who are interested in advertising their businesses in either of these two ways.

Thank you so much to all the volunteers who helped make our Friday the 13th celebrations so fun! We had a festive Owner Appreciation Day and the Business Showcase was super successful. Thank you to those who volunteered!
Our next big event: Saturday, April 11, 2015: Kids Expo!! Thank you for collecting your small yogurt sized containers and bringing them in. Remember, for every 10 you brought in - that's one hour of volunteer time. Please remember to fill out a volunteer hour form so that I can credit your account. Or, you can text or email me: Twyla, 916-521-4569 or twyla@placervillecoop.org
Would you like to help out at the event on Saturday, April 11, 2015? We need volunteers for set-up (8:00 am - 10:00 am), working at the booth (10:00 am - 3:00 pm) and clean-up (3:00 pm - 5:00 pm: DOUBLE HOURS for clean-up)! Please contact me if you are interested in any and all shifts.
Volunteers are also needed for Saturday, April 25, 2015. We will have a booth at the annual Earth Day event at the Library.
We need people to work at our food booth. Please contact me if you are interested. 8:00 am -5:00 pm. Volunteer for 1-8 hours.
This is a fun community event.
Needed: a volunteer who loves to file. Yes, we still need papers filed. If you are interested in volunteering a few hours a month
to help with filing, please contact me.
Remember - for every fours you volunteer at the co-op, you will receive a 10% discount every time you shop the co-op during the following
month. For example, if you volunteer 16 hours in April, you will receive a 10% discount every time you shop during the months of
May, June, July and August. What a fun way to participate and save!
