Staff News
Jessa Griewe and Samantha Noonan have both moved on to new adventures. We sure do appreciate all of the good work they did for the co-op and wish them all the best in their next endeavors.
Justin Barbu has taken over as our new Produce Buyer and we just hired Chris Calder as our weekend Produce Clerk and Cashier. We're excited to have Chris join our crew, as he's worked at the Ashland Food Co-op in Oregon and is relocating to the Placerville area. Say hi to Chris next time you're in the store!

Grower's Meeting

And speaking of Justin, he hosted our January 15th Second Annual Growers Meeting. The meeting was well attended by local growers Ben Woods of Mama Earth Farm, Gerardo Perez of Perez Red Shack, William Holland of Melifera Farm, Randy Hansen of Stoney Point - Pine Hill Orchards, Craig and Vivian Thompson of Seven Grandfathers Farm, and Dick Blair of Bear Track Farm and Hank Canclini of Papa Hank's Skyridge Farm. Engaging discussions about pricing, what to grow, quantities, quality of product and how the Co-op and local growers can work together to ensure the best product for the best price to both farmers and consumers.

Co-op Rummage Sale

Co-op Spring Rummage Sale will be held on Saturday, March 30th. Remember to save your rummage for the Co-op. All rummage that is left at the end of the day is donated to Snowline Hospice or Partners in Care. Donations can be dropped off at the Co-op during the month of March. Last October's rummage sale raised $800.00 for the Co-op and we were able to complete our landscaping project. This year's Spring Rummage Sale will be used to pay for the Grower's Poster Project and  a new canopy cover for our outdoor eating area

Co-op Secures Loan!

Great news. Your Placerville Natural Foods Co-op has just secured a much anticipated $100,000 loan from the Northern California Community Loan Foundation (NCCLF).

When the Placerville Natural Foods Co-op opened it's doors on October 29, 2011, we did so knowing that we were under capitalized, meaning we would still be in need of a cash reserve to help with ensuring stock availability, vendor payments and other cash flow necessities.

For the past 6 months we have been working with a non-profit community lending organization, the NCCLF, to obtain a loan or a line of credit in the amount of $100,000. The funds are to be used to purchase inventory, payment of accounts payable, operating expenses, and much needed capital improvements and equipment purchases.

In January 2013 NCCLF granted our loan! You can expect to see many new improvements in the store soon, including new signage, fewer out-of- stock items, new merchandising plans, a member suggestion/question bulletin, and new paint (along with our member-made new veggie art) on some of the interior walls and much, much more.

Our big thanks go out to Board Members Mickey Kaiserman and Bill Scrivani for shepherding this process through to success!

Green Fire is an Emmy award-winning, full-length documentary, produced by the US Forest Service, exploring the life and legacy of the great conservationist pioneer Aldo Leopold, the man who “saved” the American wilderness.  His influence is felt throughout the world of forestry, wilderness and conservation, anytime people work together to preserve and protect American wilderness and public lands, and ensure that their management preserves and protects healthy habitat for all species.  Leopold's book, A Sand County Almanac, stands beside Rachel Carson's Silent Spring as the seminal work in the development of American and worldwide environmental and conservation concern and action.

The Co-op's co-sponsorship of GREEN FIRE is part of our participation in Season For Nonviolence, with other events of the Season... running February 9 - March 30: more great films, workshops, speaker forums, etc.  Download a complete calendar of events here: Season for Nonviolence Calendar.
