General Manager’s Letter

I write this letter with mixed emotions, as I know that I will be thousands of miles away when it is published. My time at PNFC is over and the Co-op is prepared to move into a new era. It does not seem like six months have gone by, but it is true. It has been quite a ride. There have been many changes, adjustments, and opportunities during this time
that have helped move the Co-op into the profitable category, while still keeping with the mission of supporting our local producers.

As I leave the Co-op in the very capable hands of Brad Salmon, I feel confident that the positive momentum will continue and he will lead Your Co-op into greater opportunities.I have made a lot of friends that help me with the accomplishments. I would like to thank each one by name, but they are too many and I may forget some. Anyway, thanks to all the acquaintances that made this possible (members, staff, local producers, and farmers).

On behalf of all the member/owners and staff, I am grateful that I had the opportunity to work in the PNFC Co-op. I will never forget Placerville Natural Food Co-op and if my future travels take me anywhere nearby, I will definitely return for a visit.

Thank you,
Garland McQueen

General Manager's Letter, part 2

Having arrived just before the newsletter goes to ‘press’ I wanted to say just a quick hello and to express my gratitude to those who helped me to embark upon this journey. I am grateful to have been selected as the new General Manager of Placerville Natural Foods Co-op and I look forward to contributing my energy, experience and resources toward the continued development of our PNFC.

Those who have come before me have made tremendous contributions to the cooperative and I am in their debt. We have great momentum flowing right now and our future seems bright. I wish to assure the member owners of PNFC that I am committed to doing my best to carry on in the footsteps of the founders of this cooperative.

Enthusiastically yours,
Brad Salmon

From the Board

At our July board meeting, the Directors and a number of Owners in attendance as visitors welcomed our newly hired General Manager, Brad Salmon, to Placerville Natural Foods Co-op. Brad arrived in Placerville a few days earlier;  spending his time settling into temporary quarters, meeting Co-op staff & owners, as well as getting a crash familiarization course in the Co-op daily operations from Interim General Manager Garland Mcqueen.

As I write this article Garland is on the road to his home in Georgia for a brief respite then he will move on to his next assignment at another co-op in Columbus Ohio. Staff, Owners, Owner-producers and the Board all expressed high praise and much gratitude to Garland for his six months tenure here in Placerville during which time many improvements in practices, pricing, and the look of the store,  all of which have brought our Co-op to our first profitable quarter since we started operations in 2011.

The Board of Directors are planning for our election of directors and our Annual Membership Meeting in October. We are always looking for good candidates to stand for election to our Board of Directors. Candidates should have an active interest in community, organization and governance as demonstrated by attendance at Co-op Board meetings and participation in volunteer activities in support of the Co-op. The Board regularly meets on the last Monday of every month at 6:00 PM in the meeting room above the store. Our bylaws call for the Co-op to be governed by a seven person Board of Directors, however, we currently have only six persons sitting on the Board due to two resignations of directors in the past year. If you think you might be interested in this opportunity please contact one of the Directors or the General Manager.
