General Manager’s Letter

It appears that winter is now behind us and I can look forward to the great summer days in Placerville.

Don’t forget our Member Appreciation Day, which is always the second Friday of the month and during May, this will be May 8th.  On these days, all members will receive 10% off their entire purchase.

Some of the recent changes are:
Website: Updated and some new options. We will soon have an updated listing of all the products that are grown or produced locally.
Facebook: Updated to keep you informed on upcoming events.
Produce: Has been reset for easier shopping and inventory control.Bottom line is that we can keep the product fresher and sell more quality products.
Grocery aisles: The grocery area has been reset to generate a better shopping “flow”. We selectively eliminated the slow/no moving items that were using valuable space and using inventory dollars that are used better elsewhere. You will notice many new items that have replaced the stagnant items.

You will also notice many Non GMO Verified tags on the shelf. Your co-op is now approximately 90% Verified GMO Free. Much of the remaining 10% is in the process of verification.

The changes have had a positive effect as your Co-op continually climbs in sales and receives many positive comments from members and customers. Along with the sales growth, the owner/member growth continues as well.

On behalf of all the staff and myself, we are thankful and appreciate your continued support.

I still enjoy meeting owners that have not been in the Co-op for a while. I only hope that you find your store to your liking and feel encouraged to visit more often. If there are any issues or concerns, feel free to contact me at garland@placervillecoop.org  I will respond to all e-mails as quickly as possible.

Thank you,

Garland McQueen, General Manager

From the Board

It’s not too early to consider how you can be of help to the Co-op. We are looking for a few good Owner-Member candidates to stand for election to our Board of Directors. Candidates should have an active interest in community organization governance, demonstrated by attendance at Co-op Board meetings, trainings, and participation in volunteer activities in support of the Co-op. The Board meets regularly on the last Monday of every month at 6:00 PM in the upstairs meeting room at the store. Our bylaws call for the Co-op to be governed by a seven person board of directors, however we currently have only six persons sitting on the board due to two resignations in the past year.

The Co-op uses a “policy governance” system, in which the Board of Directors adopted and maintains a policy document that establishes the rules under which a General Manager, selected and hired by the board, conducts the daily business affairs of the Co-op. You may read the latest version of the Policy Register at the Co-op.

If you think you might be interested in this opportunity please contact one of the Directors (contact list on in-store bulletin board) or the General Manager.
