FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER
Greetings co-op members & shoppers,
As you have probably noticed our main retail freezer is under repair...again. We had a major repair in June as you may recall (it's still very fresh in our minds!). Unfortunately, refrigeration break-down/repair is a common and expensive part of running a grocery store. We have learned a lot through the recent breakdowns and we continue to build our SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) handbook with valuable information on how to deal with refrigeration issues in the future. It will take us a while to re-stock our frozen inventory, but please let us know your favorite items and we will try to have them stocked as soon as possible.
Through our new relationship with the El Dorado Food Bank, we were able to donate an considerable amount of unsellable, but completely consumable, frozen foods. Due to the hard work of our staff, we were able to minimize waste. Despite the frustration and challenges it brought our staff together in ways that only crisis can! Thank you PFC staff for your hard work and willingness to face every grocery store's worst nightmare. We did it! And we got to eat a lot of ice cream while doing it.
To our loyal coop customers, thank you for your continued patience and support. We had many shoppers buy more frozen goods than normal and offer to purchase what we couldn't store - THANK YOU!
As always, please contact me with any questions, suggestions, or comments.
In cooperation,
Regina Miranda General Manager

FROM THE BOARD
With the 2018 mid-term elections at the top of news right now we are reminded of what it means to be part of a democracy. The Placerville Food Co-op is a member-owned organization, and each member has a voice when it comes to electing the Board of Directors, who make important financial and operational decisions for the Co-op. As a part of a democratically run organization, not only can you vote in our annual board elections but you can participate in other ways by actively participating in volunteer events, our annual and quarterly meetings and by joining our Long-Range Planning Committee. Have you considered becoming a board member? (We have one vacancy to fill!) The board encourages member participation in many forms! Please contact board@placervillecoop.org for more information about how you can get more involved! Check our website for upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. As one of the 7 Cooperative Principles democracy is essential to building a flourishing and prosperous co-op that supports the sustainability of our local environment, economy, and community.
In cooperation,
Sarah Jones
Board President
It's that time of year, voting for our Board of Directors began October 27 and will close November 16, 2018. Open the Google Docs below and mail or bring in your ballot. Schedule of Election & Ballot Candidate Bios
COOPERATOR OF THE MONTH
Help us congratulate Morgan! Although he is new to working at the co-op, he has been a shopper for a long time. He works in our deli and is thrilled to help provide food to coop shoppers.
<-Here he is dressed as Bob Ross on Halloween!
His co-workers had wonderful words about him: "He is amazing, always on time and has a positive attitude!"
"Great team player, great attitude!"
"He is so reliable, always upbeat and puts everyone in a good mood."
Our 3rd Annual Healthy Halloween was a success. We would love to turn this event into a larger event for our community. If you're interested in volunteering for next year's event, please contact Haley at haley@placervillefood.coop
