Volunteers and Vendors made the Co-op Anniversary celebration a success.

Calling All Volunteers!
by Julie Silvey
Our co-op needs each of us to help make it a better, more viable organization with greater, positive

influence  in our community. Any member in good standing can be a volunteer. All you need do is contact me, fill out an application and go through a brief orientation at the store. You will usually receive only one e-mail each month pertaining to volunteer needs, in addition to the Gleanings newsletter.   Four hours of volunteer time accumulated will earn you a discount of 10% off all of your purchases of regularly priced items the following month.

Upcoming Events:

The community event Empty Bowls will be held on November 16th. We need a volunteer to take the co-op information kit to the dinner, set it up and oversee it throughout the evening, then return it to the store. You will not need to be at the table all evening, just keep and eye on it.

Holiday Market Bazaar - Many volunteers are needed to help with this fun event on November 30th, everything from set-up to clean-up, sign flipping on the highway, food preparation and transportation from the store to the Shakespeare Club and food and beverage sales.  Please let me know soon if you can help!

Misc. Volunteering Opportunities:

Minutes/Notetaker needed starting this month for the PNFC Board Meetings.

Someone to take on the task of Historian for the co-op.  If you like to scrapbook this could be the volunteer job for you!

Food and Product Demonstrations: No experience necessary, but a friendly smile and a bit of enthusiasm would be most helpful.

Graphic Designer - to help redesign the co-op's website

High Five Program - Volunteer to find recipes with pictures for each of our High Five items monthly.

What's New at the Store

by Melisa Clark, Store Manager

Happy Anniversary Placerville Co-op! That's right we have just celebrated our second full year of operations. Sales last month were our highest ever and our growth over last year was 28%! We celebrated at the store with our annual anniversary event with vendors and volunteers sampling products, handing out samples and giving away wonderful gift baskets and other goodies. Thanks to everyone who helped out on this event and special thanks to Co-op employee Lanessa Machado for coordinating this very successful event for the second time.

With our anniversary behind us it is time to look forward towards the holiday season, always a busy time for the Co-op. Thanksgiving is just a few weeks ahead so reserve your turkeys now before they are gobbled up by other Co-op shoppers. We are featuring Deistal Free Range and Deistal Free Range Organic Turkeys this year. Sign up and pay your deposit at the register before they disappear. You can sign up for your Christmas Turkey now as well.

The Holiday Market Bazaar is November 30th at the Shakespeare Club. We are teaming up with Cedar Springs Waldorf School for the second consecutive year. This annual event, featuring local crafters/artisans, is the perfect place to buy unique handmade gifts for all of the people on your holiday list. This year we will have at least 40 vendors so it should be easy to find that special something you are looking for. The Co-op will be vending food at the event so you can take a break, warm up and replenish anytime during your visit to the Holiday Market Bazaar.

Thanks for your support of the Co-op over the last two years. Let's make our next year even better! The Co-op! We own it!

YOUR CO-OP’S WORK IN THE COMMUNITY:
The Low-Income Customer (LIC) program allows area folks on Cal-Fresh (food stamps) WIC, etc. to use that assistance to purchase safe, organic, healthy food at the Co-op with a 10% discount!  Twenty-one families now participate   in our LIC program, giving them access to top-quality food.  We’re all in this together – COOPERATIVELY!
