A Message from the Grand Teton Climbers’ Ranch

Dear *|FNAME|*,

We are still in the heart of the season at the Grand Teton Climbers’ Ranch. The weather in northwest Wyoming is glorious, and the climbing routes have arrived at a perfect balance of well-consolidated snow and dry rock. As you know from personal experience, the Climbers’ Ranch is one of the greatest benefits of membership in the American Alpine Club. The traditions, friendships, and memories which all of us treasure from our visits to the ranch are enduring reminders of why we return time and again to the Tetons.

The 10-year concession contract under which the Climbers’ Ranch is privileged to occupy a priceless historic property within the boundaries of Grand Teton National Park expires on December 31, 2012. In preparation for our application for a renewal of that contract, The American Alpine Climb has undertaken extensive repair and maintenance projects at the ranch, as mandated by the National Park Service. Since early June these projects have included electrical work throughout the ranch and a complete re-pointing of the chimneys on the Historic Lodge and the Manager’s Cabin. With other necessary projects, and the salaries of two part-time employees specially dedicated to maintenance work, operating costs in 2011 will be more than $10,000 over last season.

Lodging rates at the ranch are not sufficient to cover these additional expenses. A bunk at the Climbers’ Ranch still costs only $14 a night for members and $22 a night for non-members. The Climbers’ Ranch remains far and away the best lodging bargain anywhere in Jackson Hole, and the only facility dedicated to the climbing community.

The Climbers’ Ranch is once again an approved participant in the matching grants program of Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. Funds raised through Old Bill’s Fun Run to the account of the Climbers’ Ranch benefit from a Foundation match of approximately 50%. The match varies slightly each year. Typically, for every $100 donation the Climbers’ Ranch receives $150 from the Foundation.

The deadline for donations this year is September 16, 2011 at 5:00 P.M. Mountain Time.
Donations can be made on-line by following the simple instructions on the link for the Old Bill’s Fun Run page on the website of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole:
