Trafford MP visits local pharmacy

Graham Brady MP (Con, Altrincham & Sale West) popped into Broomwood Pharmacy in Timperley, Trafford in early December to find out more about the services community pharmacy provides.

Mr Brady met pharmacist Edward Teggart and the team in Broomwood, who told him about the minor ailments scheme and other advanced and enhanced services they provide, as well as working closely with GP colleagues to support people with long-term conditions.  Helen Smith, the GM LPC Locality Lead for Trafford, also met Mr Brady and chatted about how community pharmacy could have an even more important role in the NHS in future.

Edward Teggart said: “We really appreciated Mr Brady coming to find out more about community pharmacy and how we can relieve pressure from other health services by being the first port of call for help with minor illnesses and health queries.”

The visit was the latest in the series of MP visits we have arranged so politicians can find out more and show their support for local pharmacies.

Salford Lung Study project update

The asthma study portion of the Salford Lung Study project is nearing completion.  It is anticipated that all patients will be finalised in December. The data cleaning phase will then commence to answer any remaining queries.  It is hoped to complete this by February 2017 and the target is for the database to be frozen on 21st February 2017.

Very preliminary findings should be available in March 2017.

The organisers of the study have expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude for the co-operation received from and professionalism displayed by all the pharmacies involved in the study.

Pharmacy referrals to GM Fire Service ‘keep warm’

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service is offering free advice and home visits on how people can keep warm this winter without increasing their risk of house fires. The Fire Service is also offering free ‘winter warm’ packs to people in need.

Community pharmacists can refer people to the scheme.

National Framework Agreement for Clinical Waste Services for Pharmacies

NHS England has launched a new national framework agreement for the collection and disposal of unwanted medicines from pharmacies.

So what does this mean for you?
You’ll be aware that NHS England is responsible for funding the collection and disposal of clinical waste from your pharmacy on your behalf. Therefore, when it’s time for a new contract to be awarded in your area for the collection and disposal of clinical waste, NHS England will be inviting only suppliers who are on this new national framework to bid for that contract.

This new approach will deliver a number of benefits including improved quality standards, consistency, better management of contracts and value for money. You can read more about this Framework Agreement on our website
