Believing the Impossible

Dear friends

Thursday 28th March will see the continuation of the Wessex Filling Station theme for the winter/Spring season: Discipleship 2019.

Jimmy and Sarah DaleOur Speaker will be the the Church of England's first ever National Youth Evangelism Officer: Jimmy Dale.

Jimmy might be a new name to your ears but God has been using him to inspire a rising generation of young Christian's in their walk with God. His appointment was a direct result of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s focus on evangelism especially among young people.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin WelbyThe Archbishop's director of Mission and Public Affairs tasked Jimmy with developing new ways to witness to 11-to-18 year old teenagers, and then to roll those new initiatives out across all UK dioceses. He is based in London but travels widely speaking at churches up and down the country teaching both youth and adult leaderships in the ways they might engage with their young people, inspire them to follow Jesus, and impact their friends and peers with kingdom values.

Hope RevHOPE Revolution:

We invited Jimmy to come to Dorset when this rising star came on our radar through our close connection with Roy Crowne and the HOPE Together team in Rugby. Jimmy sits on the steering committee of 'HOPE Revolution', the youth arm of HOPE, and is presently their Interim Youth Director; a role he has taken on over the last year or so. Actually HOPE has recently announced their new director of youth who will take over from Jimmy in the next few days just before he comes to us.

2 Days 3 Meetings:

#1 The Village:

Jimmy DaleJimmy will be speaking at three events over his two day stay with us. The first, mentioned above, is on Thursday 28th when we will be having our regular monthly Wessex Filling Station meeting at the Village Hotel Bournemouth. There he will be sharing about 'Believing the Impossible' and how when it mattered, the disciples got out of the boat to wade toward Jesus.

#2: Youth Leaders Lunch:

Jimmy DaleHe will also be speaking at two events on Friday 29th March, firstly at lunchtime (12-2 pm) when there will be a Youth Leaders lunch at Moorlands College. When Colin Bennett, the Vice-Principal of Development at Moorlands heard that Jimmy was coming down for two days he offered to host the Youth Leaders lunch for up to 16 people, because he had heard so many good things about Jimmy's ministry and passion for youth work and mission.

At the lunch we will take time to explore how our local youth groups might work together to inspire our young people in their walk with God. But also how we might use both Mission Academy Live and Advance 2020 as tools to train and release our youngsters into ministry locally.

#3 network Youth Event:

Then there will be a network Youth Event in the evening at Twynham Church, Christchurch. Worship will be led by Jotham Watson and the band, the event will see young people coming together from the churches of the New Forest (West), Christchurch, Bournemouth and Poole.

Jotham Watson and the Youth BAndTwynham Church is in the perfect location for this united youth event with its ease of access from both the west side of the New Forest, Bournemouth and Poole. Plus, it has good parking across Barrack Road on the Homebase car park (see notes below on 3 hour maximum parking times).

Brian EdgeleyInterestingly one of the Wessex Directors, Brian Edgeley met with the local Urban Saints representative to talk about how we might work together to see the youth of our area networking more and being encouraged in their daily walk. Another strange coincidence was that they were both graduates of Moorlands college, and both have a desire to see our young people discipled to become life long followers of Jesus - which goes along nicely with the Wessex Filling Station  Discipleship series for winter /spring 2019 - and the coming TURNING Dorset 2019.

The Turning Dorset:
The Turning
Having talked about the possibility of the Turning Bournemouth 2019 for the last 18 months, it is now a reality as Leaders Training has begun and more churches are tying in with the 3 main church hubs in Christchurch, Bournemouth and Southbourne.

We will write more about this in the coming months as we work with Bournemouth Community Church's Andy Driscoll, Moorlands and the 3 local hubs to encourage a week of street mission in June.

From the 'Mission Launch Celebration' on 13th June at Bournemouth Community Church (BCC), to the final 'Testimonial Celebration' on 19th June (again at BCC); we hope to see hundreds of people open to chat about the gospel and faith in Jesus - and open to getting together again to hear more about Jesus over coffee.
