New Zealand Deaf Short Film Festival

The deadline for entering films into the short film competition is Friday 17th July. Teams need to make sure they have submitted films, filled out the online form, and made their payment by that date.
Festival Tickets are now available for sale. Any tickets purchased before Friday 17th July goes into a draw to win one free nights accommodation at CQ Hotels on Saturday 5th September.

Job Vacancy – National Administrator

Quiz Night

Deaf Desi NZ have something exciting to announce on 10th of July which is a Indian quiz night so are you ready to have some knowledge about Indian culture? Come and learn about it!

It will cost $40 for group of 4 people which means $10 per person for those who want to participate. 

Canteen will be open as we be selling homemade lamb samosas, vegetarian samosas and hot chips also we will be having a raffle and great prizes will be won.

TEC Courses in Auckland 

Deaf Aotearoa staff are constantly trying to meet the community’s needs when it comes to TEC courses.
TEC courses are provided to improve a person’s skills, and ability to get jobs.
We want to ensure that the courses meet YOUR needs.
Example of courses that we can provide: Forklifting, First Aid, Learner’s Licence and more.

Mangere Markets 

Mangere Market is the spot for New Zealand’s multi cultural shopping experience.
Produce and merchandise from around the world is displayed weekly in a family environment.
Many countries and cultures are represented in this colourful showpiece of displays. People are naturally drawn to the agreeable mix of social activity that good markets offer! 
So come along, and experience the colourful diversity.

Children's Discovery Trail - Hamilton Gardens

The Hamilton Gardens Discovery Trail takes children on a journey where they can explore an enchanting world of secret themed gardens. Explore a lush tropical garden, mystical ancient China, play shadow bingo or count the number of fairies on wooden carvings filled with curious woodland critters.

For Us They Fell – Waikato Museum

For Us They Fell is an exhibition about the human stories of the people of the Waikato and World War 1. The show includes objects donated or loaned by the families of those who served – medals, letters, photographs and so on – sourced during a roadshow around the region last year.

Play with and meet Peppa Pig – Te Awa, The Base

It’s raining outside so Sammy our host and Peppa Pig are playing a rainy day game called ‘Teddy’s and Dinosaurs’ and playing catch. There will be lots of singing and plenty of jumping in muddy puddles.

Tsunami Evacuation Community Open Day

This is an open day for everyone where displays will be available for the community to read and talk to staff with any queries.

Colour The Night

Where: Art Village, Corner Hinemoa and Hinemaru Streets, Rotorua

This is an evening of fun, laughter, dance, music, art and food for the whole family.
There will be a tent with storytelling in New Zealand Sign Language.


Tauranga Night Market

This popular Night Market used to be on Sunday night and it has changed to Saturday nights.

Kids Fish Out

Motor Home and Leisure Show

Where: Tauranga Racecourse, 1381 Cameron Rd, Greerton

Time: Friday 2nd October from 10am till 5pm

            Sunday 4th October from 10am till 4pm
Cost: $10.00 per person
This will be Tauranga’s first Motor Home and Leisure Show.
Exhibitors and vendors will be able to showcase their great products in the most populous city.
There will be campervans, caravans, tents, equipment and more.

The Temporary Ice Rink is here in Palmerston North

The Big Birthday Party – light and sound show celebrates 150 years as our capital

On the 25th and 26th July, Wellington will celebrate 150 years as New Zealand’s capital with Capital 150.
To mark this special occasion, Wellington City Council is preparing to present an unforgettable show in Parliament grounds for all New Zealanders to enjoy.
The Big Birthday Party, starting at 5pm, will be a two hour celebration with music icon and top Kiwi bloke Dave Dobbyn performing alongside the Orpheus Choir, followed by an exciting video-mapping experience, as projectors play with the architecture of Parliament House while telling the Wellington story.
A 20 minute light and sound show will be repeated on the hour and half hour from 5pm to 9pm on the Sunday and the Monday evenings. Click here to read more…

Community Support Worker Vacancy – North side of town.

We are working with an orgsanisation who have a vacancy available for a support worker supporting a deaf client. They need to have NZSL skills and relate well to people.
Hours will be between six to nine hours per week, the position will involve a daily life routines such as trips to swimming pools, community classes, the library and other duties during the day, transport can be provided if needed.

ILT Kidzone 2015 Tickets on Sale

School Holidays Start at the End of the week, why not check this out!
Where: James Hargest Senior Campus on Layard Street Invercargill
When: 8th – 13th July
ILT Kidzone and is held between the 8th and 13th of July at the James Hargest Senior Campus on Layard Street Invercargill.  
The build-up to this year’s edition of ILT Kidzone is well underway with excitement building as July is finally here!
There will be 170 activities to get involved with such as, Bungy Tramp, Clay Play, Incredible Edibles, the ever-popular Green Machines, Puddle Jumpers, Lego Land, Sand Land plus all new activities including the incredible new Spider Web.
Volunteers for the 6 days of ILT Kidzone are being sought; those interested can visit the website:
The Southland District Council will be running special ILT Kidzone buses on Sunday 12th of July for $2 per person. The Northern Navigator leaves from Fiordland College, the Tuatapere Trail Blazer leaves from Tuatapere College, the Eastern Express leaves from Tokanui School and the Otautau Overlander leaves from the Ohai Marae.
South Invercargill and Bluff ILT Kidzone ticket holders can utilise a free bus service on Monday the 13th of July. Details of transport option are available from the event website.
Families are being urged to get in quick to secure tickets as demand is always high for the 1800 available for each day of ILT Kidzone. Tickets can be purchased from the ILT Kidzone website, the Invercargill i-Site or until Friday the 19th of June, at any Southland District Council Office.

Smoke Alarms

It’s getting into the colder months here in Invercargill, more Fires and heaters are being used
and you become at High Risk of Fires in the Home, we want to know you are safe.

If you don’t have smoke alarms at this high risk time of the Year, please make contact with Rebecca at the Office to make an appointment to see if you could get some Funding for some or at least talk through your options.

We will get a Fire Officer to assess your home and get them installed for you.
