New Discover Your Bible Materials for Fall 2016

You asked for it! New Discover Your Bible studies will be released over the next several weeks for use in the 2016/17 ministry year. What’s new? When is it available?

Discover Colossians — In the book of Colossians, a letter written by the apostle Paul in the first century A.D., we discover the wonders of a “mystery that was hidden for ages.” That mystery is Jesus Christ, now revealed for all people to see as the Savior who transforms us and makes us new. He makes it possible for us to have new life forever, the way God intended from the beginning. In this study we explore with Paul and the Colossians the amazing depths of God’s love for us in Christ, in whom “all things hold together,” so that we too can live by that love in all our relationships.  Continue reading »

Discover Ruth — Some have said the book of Ruth is one of the best short stories ever written. This great story is about God, his care for people, and how God’s story is woven into the lives of ordinary individuals.  Continue reading »

At the Table

By Twila Haringa, Sunnyside Washington

As a child, what were the rules while eating a family meal? Clean your plate before leaving, pray with your eyes closed, no knees on the table might come to mind.  Were there topics that were forbidden—like dead animals, “road kill” or animals in general? You might laugh but in my family appetites were spoiled and food wasted by such conversations. How did these guidelines get passed down or shared with visiting friends?

Now consider the people who attend your Coffee Break or other small group settings.  Read More

Upside-down Coffee Break Training

Coffee Break and small group leaders in Grand Rapids, MI and Platte, SD experienced a newly revised leadership training where participants led the learning process. We all left tired and inspired!

Here’s what participants said:

  • “My questions were answered through interaction with other attendees and leaders.”
  • “Helpful — practical — inspiring — encouraging”
  • “I loved having everyone participate in a low key way.”

Next, the group plans to adapt the training to an online format. We will be looking for brave souls willing to try learning in an online format! If you would like to learn more about online training or find out what is involved in hosting a workshop, contact us at  Read More

Story Hour, Little Lambs and Universal Design

What is “Universal Design”, you ask? And what can it possibly have to do with Story Hour and Little Lambs?

Universal design is an initiative to make something accessible to all. So to apply that to our work with children, we must ask if we are offering an environment where each child is able to grow and learn and to experience God’s love. This means setting up an environment where all children, those with abilities and disabilities, can connect with the gospel message. Continue reading »
