What’s New from Safe Church?

Our Newsletter is new! And we also have a new promotional video! It is our hope and prayer that these new resources from Safe Church Ministry will be well used to help equip CRC congregations in abuse awareness, prevention and response.

We’re excited about the new electronic format for the Safe Church newsletter. We hope that it is easier to use and to link directly to articles of interest. In our new bi-monthly format, you can plan to receive a Safe Church newsletter in January, March, May, July, September & November. We hope that you will look forward to receiving our new newsletter and will enjoy reading it in its new format. Our readership will now be tracked automatically. People can sign up for the Safe Church newsletter on our website, and can unsubscribe at any time using a link at the bottom of the page.  We believe that this change will better serve all of us. We also have previous newsletters on our website which you can access here.

In addition to a new newsletter, we’re thrilled with a new promotional video for Safe Church Ministry. It’s available here. The video is about 3 minutes long. We envision it being used at council meetings, at volunteer training events, at classis gatherings, for Abuse Awareness Sunday, perhaps during an offering announcement, or as an introduction and/or promotion for all kinds of Safe Church educational events. Let us know how you plan to use it!

We are partners in a common vision that we share, “to empower and equip faith communities to keep children and youth safe in their homes, churches, and communities.” Their most recent newsletter is packed full of information that is too good not to share.

Rethinking Forgiveness

Forgiveness is an extremely complex and difficult topic, especially when the wounds go deep, as they do in most situations of abuse. Safe Church Network guide, Monica Brands, has written this very thoughtful article on the topic.

Abuse Awareness

There can be no good strategy for abuse prevention and no just response to abuse if there is not first a basic awareness of what abuse is. What are the dynamics? What are the impacts? Are there signs that can help us recognize it? And how do we increase awareness to make all of our efforts more effective?
