By the Numbers - Revenues
Every week, By The Numbers will describe a few key numbers that provide insight into the operations of Resurrection Lutheran Church.

Operating expenses for RLC for 2022 are expected to total over $1.5 million for the year. That seems like a lot of money (and it is), but about 75% of that goes to pay salaries, payroll taxes and benefits for RLC's roughly 50 full-time and part-time employees. Last year, Pastor Tim was wearing way too many hats, so this year we plan to support him by adding an Associate Pastor and a Media/Tech Director. After compensation expenses, no other expense category exceeds 5% of the budget. But these operating expenses - utilities, equipment leasing, repairs, and insurance, to name a few - vary more than compensation expense. Each month, our bookkeeper provides a thorough analysis of all expenditures to the Finance Committee for their review.

Two significant areas of expense are not included in the $1.5 million discussed above: the CDC and the mortgage. The CDC has its own budget, with revenues and expenses just over $900,000. And the mortgage payments, which total $219,152 annually, are expected to be covered by offerings specifically designated for that purpose.

If God Is Love, Don't Be a Jerk: Finding a Faith That Makes Us Better Humans by John Pavlovitz (2021)

Thou Shalt Not Be Horrible.

Imagine for a moment what the world might look like if we as people of faith, morality, and conscience actually aspired to this mantra. What if we were fully burdened to create a world that was more loving and equitable than when we arrived?

What if we invited one another to share in wide-open, fearless, spiritual communities truly marked by compassion and interdependence? What if we daily challenged ourselves to live a faith that simply made us better humans?

John Pavlovitz explores how we can embody this kinder kind of spirituality where we humbly examine our belief system to understand how it might compel us to act in less-than-loving ways toward others.

Join us Tuesdays in the Sanctuary starting January 18 through March 8, 2022, from 10:00 – 11:30 am. Jeff Kraus will facilitate what promises to be a lively discussion. All are welcome!

The book is available at Amazon and other sites.

Life Groups
Calling for Host, Guides, and Participants
for a Church-Wide 6-Week Lenten Study
Beginning February 27

We will be using Max Lucado’s book, No Wonder They Call Him the Savior, Chronicles of the Cross. The study will begin on February 27 and end on April 6. It is a short book containing a montage of very short chapters contrasting people, events, and situations in our modern world to those during the time of the crucifixion. It is an easy read with each chapter containing a seemingly simple concept. The reader sees the events of the crucifixion through the eyes of the people who were there. The impact builds as each “puzzle piece” is added.

Lent is just around the corner. If you think you would like to participate in any capacity, please sign up at the Life Group Kiosk or contact Connie Burda (Connie.Burda@gmail.com or Diane Prickett (djziebart@gmail.com). We especially need guides and hosts. It will be an easy book to guide folks through and we will provide training for those who want it.
