The Resiliency Center: Your Place for Healing, Education & Community in Ambler, PA
Integrative Medicine
By Georgia Tetlow, MD

Integrative medicine is a rapidly growing and highly credible field that seeks to integrate the best of Western scientific medicine with a broader understanding of the nature of illness, healing and wellness. It focuses on all stages and aspects of an individual’s care, placing the patient at the center and seeing the individual as responsible for and involved in his or her own health.

Some of my patients have a history of chronic pain; others seek insight into holistic solutions that complement Western medicine. Many are looking for integrative ways to respond to chronic illnesses, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, autoimmune diseases, cancer and many others. One patient reported relief at understanding and gaining a sense of control over long standing medical problems. Others found a new and effective way to cope with chronic pain, high blood pressure or anxiety using meditation.

In a medical appointment, my intention is to listen to each patient, and see you as a whole person including body, emotion, mind and spirit. I work with patients to develop a highly personalized and doable treatment plan that might include conventional or alternative lab or diagnostic testing, osteopathic manipulation, physical therapy prescription or personal instruction, as well as recommendations for supplements and prescription medicines. All medical decisions are made in concert with the patient. A new patient appointment lasts 90 minutes, and addresses family history and risk factors, all clinical data, a diet and lifestyle evaluation as well as emotional and spiritual factors. I review each patient’s extensive medical questionnaire and records prior to the appointment to maximize our time together.

I offer conventional medical expertise to manage chronic illness. I have specialty training is in musculoskeletal medicine, plus a fellowship in integrative medicine through the University of Arizona, sponsored by the Bravewell Collaborative. My intention is to offer the latest evidence based recommendations regarding nutrition, supplements, herbs and alternate medical systems. As Clinical Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Thomas Jefferson Medical College, I have teaching responsibilities and access to the latest conventional medical developments in medicines and procedures. One of my teaching specialties is educating young physicians in how to accurately and compassionately perform the physical exam.

I choose to see patients at the Resiliency Center because of the high caliber of practitioners and the holistic approach to psychological and physical root causes of illness. I am a specialist in integrative medicine, not a primary care physician, and request that patients continue to work in partnership with their primary care doctor. Georgia Tetlow, MD is a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician specializing in integrative medicine for wellness and a broad range of health concerns. She is currently accepting new patients at the Resiliency Center. To schedule an appointment, please call (888) 702-7974, visit www.beingmybestself.com or email info@beingmybestself.com.
