Exciting new opportunity at ASDC

ASDC has secured funding from the Wellcome Trust to create and deliver a fabulous national programme on the subject of food and drink to engage families across the UK. ASDC is seeking an exceptional project manager with expertise in a relevant field or scientific discipline to develop and project manage this national programme.

The deadline for applications is 1 February at 11pm, and interviews will be held on 10 February in Bristol.

Register Now! The ASDC Education Conference

Early Bird rate ends Wednesday 14th January

There is just under 1 week left to register for the fantastic ASDC Education Conference at a reduced Early Bird rate. 

On Wednesday 25th of February, join Education and Learning staff from science and discovery centres across the UK at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester for this lively day-long conference.

Pecha Kucha deadline extension

Deadline: 12 January

We're delighted to invite delegates to take part in the popular Pecha Kucha session at the 2015 ASDC Education Conference. This fast-paced session will showcase the very best of new ideas and research from people working in UK science centres, discovery centres, museums and universities. 

The deadline for applications has been extended to 11pm, Monday 12th of January, and all applicants will be eligible for the Early Bird registration fee.

Our plan for growth: science and innovation

The Government recently published its Science and Innovation Strategy. This report highlights the priorities for investment and support up to 2020/2021, and sets out the government’s long term strategy to make the UK the best place in the world for science and business.



RSC Outreach Fund

Deadline: 30 January

The RSC Outreach Fund provides financial support to individuals and organisations in order to enable them to run chemistry-based events and activities for public audiences. 


British Pharmacological Society Outreach Grants

Deadline: 16 February 

Have you got a great idea for a pharmacology outreach or public engagement activity? Apply for one of the British Pharmacological Society's outreach grants and put your plan into action! Grants of up to £1500 are available to support innovative pharmacology outreach and public engagement activities. 



Public Engagement Fellowships - Call for proposals

Deadline: 26 February

The aim of the scheme is to contribute to the STFC's Public Engagement Programme by investing in good communicators with research credibility. They will act as champions or ambassadors for STFC's science, technology, engineering and mathematics ('STEM') work to schools, the media or public audiences. The scheme is open to STFC grant funded researchers or facility users in the UK or abroad


CaSE Science and Engineering Debate

14 January, The Royal Society

With only six months until the 2015 General Election, CaSE is bringing together the science spokespeople from the three main Westminster parties to debate the future direction of science and engineering in the UK.

Ofqual Consultation Event on GCSE Science

15 January, London

The Office for Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) are holding consultation events on the proposed changes to GCSE science practicals on Thursday 15th January in London. Attendees will get the chance to appraise the options available and also provide a formal response to the consultation as part of question and answer session.


BIG Event 2015 - Call for session proposals

Deadline: End of January

This year's BIG Event will take place on Wednesday 22 - Friday 24 July at the John Innes Centre in Norwich.

Your session ideas can be put forward now until around the end of January on the BIG Event session site.


Participate in the first Science Show International Cup

Deadline: 7 February 2015

From 23 until 25 September 2015, science will meet theatrics, creativity and aesthetics in Estonia at the Science Show International Cup 2015 (SSIC15). SSIC15 will be an international competition for science show performers from all over the world and will be organised as part of the biggest science event in the Baltics, the Researchers’ Night Festival 2015.


New report from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers

A new report from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers is calling on Government, teachers, industry and Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) organisations to take into account young people’s diverse values and attitudes to try to inspire them about engineering. 


Science Learning+ research projects announced

Last month, the Wellcome Trust announced the recipients of Science Learning+ Phase 1 grants.
Collectively, the Wellcome Trust, the National Science Foundation in the US and the ESRC, are funding 11 grants that will investigate, amongst other things, how people engage with science at visitor attractions such as zoos and natural history museums, the impact of participation in citizen science, and how art can help to explore science.



Bring CERN and big telescopes to your visitors!

STFC is offering a unique opportunity for your science centre to host, free of charge, its Large Hadron Collider or Seeing the Universe in all its Light roadshows. These engaging exhibitions include
interactive exhibits replicating the inspiring lives of our scientists, together with informative displays, topical science images, hardware, scale models and animations.
