FRESH MiNT #16 - Awesome April
If the five songs in this month's FRESH MiNT are anything to go by, the 2016 NT Song of the Year Awards is going to be a fierce competition! This eNews features a world music track, some hip hop, a grunge song, a beautiful country tune and some reggae grooves for your enjoyment. The Northern Territory really is a diverse musical landscape and we love it! Click through to listen to the tracks and click on the photo to find out more about the artists. Enjoy!
Gawurra - 'Ratja Yaliyali' (Vine of Love)
The highly anticipated debut album from East Arnhem land musician Gawurra is finally here and it's jaw-droppingly beautiful! 'Ratja Yaliyali' is the title track and the balance of Gawurra's voice and the swelling music creates a stunning atmospheric track. For those playing at home, the demo recording of this song won the 2015 NT Song of the Year Pop Category.

Skank and Shake - 'The Long Road Ahead'
'The Long Road Ahead' is the title track from an album that sees Skank and Shake move into new territory - both in maturity and musically. The perfect coupling. Shake's lush, spacious arrangements compliment Skank's crisp lyrical delivery. The Alice Springs pair reflect their desert home in the way they flow and expand space... mad props to the boys for this track.

Melanie Gray - 'Nature's Lullaby'
As the wet season FINALLY wraps up in the Top End, it's the perfect time to share this gem from Darwin's Melanie Gray! 'Nature's Lullaby' is a song about the chorus that the Green Tree frogs make right after the rain. It's modern Australiana and it's solid! Souring lyrics, banjo, guitar riffs and a superb mash of country and upbeat folk... we're calling it celebratory country and we love it.

Acid City - 'Don't Say'
For the first time in FRESH MiNT, we're absolutely stoked to have some grunge from Humpty Doo! Acid City are a prolific gigging band in the Top End. Their name is on most of the posters up here. And they've just released their debut EP including this track 'Don't Say'. It's dripping in garage goodness and 90's inspired vocals and guitar riffs. What a beauty!

Silk Village - 'Closed Doors (Demo)'
Darwin's answer to Sticky Fingers, the brilliant Silk Village, have dropped this groovy demo 'Closed Doors' as part of their campaign to perform at the BASSINTHEGRASS Festival. The psych/rock/reggae combination is super sophisticated for the young band and we're really looking forward to what they do in 2016. Also the vocals... damn their unique and lovely!
