Wow we can’t believe it is August already!! This year is flying by and the Possum’s are all growing up way too quickly. We have been having a fantastic time in the Possum Rooms.
The Possums have enjoyed participating in and learning about:
Living creatures- The possums enjoyed playing with the pretend bugs and reptiles and enjoyed listening to different bug story books. They were all very excited when they got to participate in the ‘Feature Creatures Reptile Show’, where the children saw turtles, spiders, a snake, frogs, lizards, scorpions and a baby crocodile. We were even lucky enough to touch some of them. The children have also enjoyed playing with a variety of toy animals during inside play, where they also have been learning the type of animals and the sounds that they create. (LO2-Explore relationships with other living and non-living things and observe, notice and respond to change)
Sustainability Week- We have been playing with and creating objects out of recycled items. We are introducing to the children the improtance of caring for our environment. We went outside and had a look in the garden, looking at the different plants and trees. We even planted our own seeds. (LO4-Use their senses to explore natural and built environments)
Creativity: The Possums have been showing great interest in engaging in art experiences and have enjoyed showing off their creativity through drawing and painting. You may have noticed all  the cool art works that are displayed around the rooms.(LO5-Experiment with ways of expressing ideas and meaning using a range of media)
Outside Play: As the weather has been warming up, we have been getting outside as much as we can, as the children have been really enjoying it. The Possums enjoy racing the bikes, driving the cars, riding the roller-coaster, sliding down the slippery dip, climbing and crawling on the climbing equipment, building sand castles in the sand pit, sitting on the see-saw and playing in the cubby houses.(LO3-Show enthusiasm for particpating in physical play and negotiate play spaces to ensure the safety and wellbeing of themselves and others)
We have room goals placed up on the wall. We are working towards these goals over a 3 month period. The possum 1 main goal is: Play parallel to our peers while sharing our resouces. The possum 2 main goal is: Increasing our literacy and numeracy skills, including vocabulary and counting.
These are goals that you could work on at home to further develop these skills. (LO1-Sense and respond to a feeling of belonging)
Just a reminder:
-Please don’t forget to bring in cot sheets and make your child’s cot in the morning when you drop your child off. Also please take the sheets home at the end of your child’s week so they can be washed.
-Please ensure that your child has a hat. It is a requirment of our sun safe policy.
