Autumn 2021 Half term 2

 Dear Parents/Carers

It certainly has been an interesting first term so far.  As we plough through the myriad of challenges, we are trying our very best to resume normal ways of working.  I’m pleased to say that our extra-curricular programme has attracted a lot of student interest but we are, as always, keen to have greater numbers of students join the many clubs and study sessions on offer after school.

We were able to safely have two open evenings earlier this term for our community which were well attended and well received by parents and students alike.  Our student ambassadors supporting both events were truly impressive and represented the school with confidence and great pride.

I thank all parents who supported the temporary introduction of face masks as COVID cases were becoming unmanageable in October but I’m pleased to report that there has been a significant drop in cases this half term.  The positive cases we are now seeing are largely amongst the unvaccinated student population.

We have also found the time to celebrate our students’ achievements and hard efforts at this term’s Diamond Award ceremony which we were able to stream live to parents and extended family members.  Our best hopes are that all award winners will continue to be exemplary role models for their peers and inspire others to follow their lead.

Our teaching and learning focus has been on developing academic language across all areas and all year groups.  The knowledge organisers on the school website provide parents an overview of what students are learning across the year in each subject. Please take advantage of this resource to discuss the content of the knowledge organisers to consolidate learning with your child.  This is particularly helpful leading up to an assessment week.

Thank you to all parents for your continued support for the school and your ongoing understanding during these strange times.

Best wishes,
Mrs Grewal Joy

Christmas Jumper Donations
We are seeking donations of unwanted/outgrown Christmas jumpers in all sizes for a ‘Festive Jumper Shop’ in December. Christmas jumpers are one of the worst examples of fast fashion with most being worn only a handful of times before being outgrown or unwanted, many also contain large quantities of plastic making them difficult to dispose of. In the past some students have been unable to source a jumper in order to take part in Save The Children’s annual Christmas jumper day and we would like to provide an opportunity for students to purchase jumpers for a small donation. Jumper donations will be accepted from 22nd November - 2nd December and can be dropped off in boxes in Year offices (for students) and in the staff room. Jumpers will be ‘on sale’ w/c 6th December on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis with all proceeds going to charity. All sizes of clothing are welcome including younger children’s items!

A Guide to TikTok
National Safety Online have produced a free online safety guide on TikTok (a video-sharing social media app which lets people create, view and download looping 15-second clips. Typically, these are videos of users lip-syncing and dancing to popular songs or soundbites (often for comic purposes), enhanced with filters, effects and text.

TikTok is a social media platform, and like others, it is constantly evolving. New features include links to in-app spending and accessing third-party content through TikTok Jump. In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as age-inappropriate content, addiction and in-app spending. Click below for more information.

NEW for 2022 - Introducing Meadowhead House System!

Meadowhead students will see the introduction of a House system from 2022 and we need your help!

We are inviting students, alumni, staff, parents and members of the local community to nominate inspirational people who the four houses could be named after. These inspirational people could be connected to the school or local S8 area in some way but do not have to be: all we need is for them to have made a difference and a positive impact in their chosen field or fields. They could be a historical figure or someone who is still having an impact today.

Y11 Options
During October & November, students have been visiting open evenings at sixth forms, colleges and training providers to help them make their post-16 decisions. It’s not too late to visit open events: you will find dates of events on, on provider websites, and we also have lists up in form rooms, on the Y11 corridor and outside the Careers Office.
Students are starting to work on personal statements and Sheffield Progress applications in their Ethics lessons. We ask that students complete these by 17 December so they can be sent off in time for the end of January deadline which some institutions follow.
Please find attached full details of the support students can expect with the post-16 options and application process. This letter was originally sent out to parents in September. If you have any questions, please contact the Careers Team at school:
Y10 Work Experience, 4 – 8 July 2022
Before half-term, we launched work experience with Y10 students. We ask students to find their own placements, with the support of parents/carers and support from school. Students have until 1 March to secure a placement, but we recommend making a start with this right away to get the best chance of finding the right experience.
Students have been provided with a work experience agreement that needs to be signed by the students, parent/carer and the placement provider. Students will get further information on how to find a placement through form time sessions on Fridays.
You can find further details about work experience and how to find it on the school website: Work Experience 2022 - Meadowhead School
Please contact the Careers Team at school with any questions:
