The Problem With "Constructive" Feedback

Managers collectively breathed a sigh of relief when big firms started abandoning annual performance evaluations. After all, they didn’t work anyway, and these firms must know what they’re doing. Au contraire. Some of the most feedback neglected staff are working in exactly these environments. It’s undisputed that people need more frequent feedback than once a year. But for many (most?) that annual review was the only feedback they were receiving at all. Unfortunately, most of it was focused on weaknesses or areas for improvement. Before you abandon your formal evaluation process, check out what some of the research suggests.
