May/June 2010 Newsletter Do It! In the previous newsletters, you have practiced visualizing and declaring your intentions. Now it is time to Do It! Do It! Is the action phase of the See It. Say It. Do It! Model. During the visualization process you experienced how to visualize the end result and then work backward. Once you see and declare your end result, you can then plan the actions needed to achieve your vision. Write down a step-by-step process of what needs to be done to achieve your end result. Add as many completion dates as possible. You can always modify the dates later, but it is very important to start with time-oriented goals. This is the foundation and development of an action plan. Developing an action plan (or an organizational chart in kid language) is a very effective, simple system to stay on track and self monitor your progress. If used consistently, this way of working becomes habitual. Re-check your action plan periodically to make sure you are on track or need to modify a date or action. Modify the organizational chart depending on the age and interest of your child. It is best if your child is involved in creating (draws, decorates, designs) his/her own plan. That way your child has ownership of the process. Don’t forget the first steps of visualization and then declaration. See the example organizational charts and action plans below: Consistency and practice are the key elements for success. What happens when you consistently practice the See It. Say It. Do It! Model? A Big Ta-Dah! I look forward to hearing about your Ta-Dah’s! Exciting News! The organizational charts have been working so well with our vision therapy patients, that many parents have requested additional charts and samples. Thanks to two of my vision therapists, Beth Fishman-McCaffrey, OTR, COVT (occupational and vision therapist) and Pat Dunnigan (vision therapist and early childhood educator), they have created a new workbook:
See It. Say It. Do It! Organize It!
This workbook is full of work planning sheets, calendars and motivational activities. It helps you organize your child’s daily routines including chores, homework and other activities. This eliminates those frustrations and arguing over doing and completing the tasks!
The workbook should be available for purchase in the summer of 2010. Pre-orders for the workbook are being taken. Click here if you would like to get this great, useful workbook as soon as its off the press!
