Happy New Year & Happy New You!

Welcome to the first LynnHellerstein.com email newsletter of 2014. It is with great honor and gratitude that I welcome you to join us for yet another great year!

The New Year transition is always a time that I reflect on the past years…acknowledge what was accomplished, what was not…the happy, the sad moments…the fun, the work…the love, the fear…

How did you celebrate the New Year?  Was it exciting? Inspirational? Or just a day off?

This year I experienced a New Year's transition like none before. Let me take you on a visualization journey...

On Dec. 26, I created my intentions for the New Year, which has been my tradition for many years. The acronym for the intentions that I created this year was FIR (Fun, Inspiration and Relaxation).

Can you imagine seven days in a gorgeous tropical retreat center hidden in Goa, India?

It might sound great until all the fears and barriers arise in taking on such an adventure like...the 20 hour plane flight, the risk of malaria, different foods (a biggie when one has digestive issues!)..., the wild dog packs, the traffic congestion...I could go on and on...

Let those fears melt away...and visualize the possibilities...sitting by a gorgeous pool surrounded by the beauty of nature...

Imagine waking up each morning watching the sun rise, followed by 2 hours of a mindful yoga practice in the morning and one hour in the evening...

Imagine eating delicious vegetarian Ayurvedic meals (ancient science of Indian herbal medicine and holistic healing based on natural plant extracts, massages and therapies to heal mind and body)...

Imagine lying on the long, white sandy beaches of Goa...

Imagine the markets, bustling with fabrics, shawls and other traditional goods from India...

Imagine the sounds and chaos of scooters and cars, weaving in and out with a strange sort of harmony...

This was my reality.  I am blessed to have just returned from India with my daughter, Becky.  We attended a Yoga retreat given by two inspirational and beautiful yoga instructors from Seattle, Jodi and Tami.  Being with Becky was truly a gift.  Her yoga practice is beautiful and she gently inspires me to physically and mentally go beyond what I "think" are my limits.

Visiting India, with so many people, languages and religions, created a place of the unexpected.  The poverty is confronting, yet the people are lovely. India is known to offer a spiritual journey for many.  Even though India is layered with a multitude of challenges, we left inspired and profoundly impacted.

What a way to bring in the New Year 2014 with a journey that jump started me on living in my intentions...fun, inspiration and relaxation.

Have you created your intentions for the year?  You can review the importance and power of intentions here.

Wishing a New Year full of love, peace and compassion for you and your family.

With love and gratitude,

Lynn Fishman Hellerstein, O.D., FCOVD, FAAO
