8 Faces #3
Hi folks! You’ll be pleased to hear that we’re now extremely close to announcing the release date for 8 Faces #3. In the meantime, here are some teasers to whet your appetite:
Cover art by Mc Bess
This is our boldest cover yet: beautifully illustrated by our favourite Frenchman Mc Bess, we’re printing it on thick brown stock and using white ink for the highlights, as well as foil-stamping for our logo. It’s pretty special!
8 amazing interviewees
We’ve got another great line-up, once again spanning the worlds of type design, graphic design, web design, and illustration:
★ Ellen Lupton — Author of Thinking With Type
★ Frank Chimero — The face of the Kickstarter success story
★ Steve Matteson — Technician behind Times and Arial, and designer of the Droid family
★ Mark Caneso — Designer of Quatro, used in the Brooklyn Beta and Insites branding
★ Vincent Connare — Creator of Comic Sans
★ Yves Peters — Editor of The FontFeed
★ Jason Smith & Phil Garnham of Fontsmith — Contemporary London-based foundry
Free House Industries catalogue
The lovely folks at House Industries are bundling their beautiful, thick catalogue for their new Photo Lettering service in every copy of 8 Faces #3, and our friends at Underware have given us inserts that give you the chance to win some champagne!
Brand new content
Issue three also features an introduction by Peter Bilak, a review of Codex: The Journal of Typography by Christopher Murphy, an essay on Type Rendering & Web Fonts by Typekit’s Tim Brown, and the typographic entries to The D&AD Student Awards.
Our interviewees have graced the issue with beautiful examples of their work, Jon Tan has returned to design the ‘typeface choices’ spreads, and I’ve made a few subtle changes to the overall design, so hopefully this is the nicest-looking issue we’ve put out so far.
I can’t wait to show you! Keep your eyes on your inbox and the @8faces Twitter feed: the date will be announced very, very soon!
Thanks so much for your time,
Elliot Jay Stocks, Founder & Editor
