Take time now to think about options such as purchasing a reusable boat cover, considering indoor storage to minimize plastic shrink wrap use, reusing your shrink wrap cover, or making a plan for shrink wrap recycling. ODNR Shares Boating & Social Distancing Tips
 
COVID-19 is forcing everyone to navigate uncharted waters, including boaters. In honor of National Safe Boating Week, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and the National Safe Boating Council encourage boaters to follow social distancing guidelines for safe outdoor recreation and offer general boating safety tips.

Putting a Lid on Plastic Pollution
 
Ohio Sea Grant Extension Educator Jill Bartolotta and Stone Lab Education & Outreach Assistant Sue Bixler have estimated that Put-in-Bay tourists could eliminate 2.81 million plastic straws, 2.81 million plastic bags and 3.75 million plastic bottles a year by choosing reusable alternatives. A two-year outreach project encourages those alternatives on the island and at home. Clean Marinas staff member Paul Dravillas is assisting with boater outreach.

Help Find New Ways to Recycle Fishing Line, Soft Bait
 
The Recast and Recycle Contest is to seek out new ideas and improvements to the recycling process, new recycled product ideas, or offer a technology breakthrough for the current process that will increase the volume of line and soft baits that are recycled. A total of $30,000 in prize money is at stake for any boater, angler, armchair technologist, team, student, or anyone willing to submit a contest entry now through May 14.
