Welcome New Clean Marinas!

2016 has been a busy year! With the statewide expansion, we have certified a number of new Clean Marinas in the Ohio River watershed. Please join us in welcoming them to the Ohio Clean Marinas Program family! Marinas, boatyards, and yacht clubs of any size are encouraged to join the voluntary Clean Marinas Program. If you have a colleague who may be interested, please have them contact us.

IMPORTANT! Ohio EPA Draft Changes to NPDES Permit
The Ohio EPA has proposed changes to the marina specific industrial NPDES permits that would incorporate marinas that are required to have an NPDES permit fall under the General NPDES permit. The proposed rule would alter boat washing practices at marinas beginning in 2018. Read more about the proposed rule here.

An Ohio EPA public hearing to accept comments on the draft general permit has been scheduled for January 9, 2017 at 3:30 PM at the Ohio EPA Lazarus Government Center, 6th Floor Conference Room A, 50 West Town Street, Suite 700, Columbus, Ohio 43215. In lieu of attending the public hearing, interested persons are invited to submit written comments on this draft general permit. Comments should be submitted in person or by mail no later than end of business on January 16, 2017. Comments received after this date may not be considered as part of the official record of this hearing. Deliver or mail all comments to:

Ohio Clean Marinas Conference
February 22nd - location TBD

Join us for our first annual Ohio Clean Marinas Conference! In working with our marina owners and operators, as well as discussion within the advisory board, there has been an expressed need to provide marinas information regarding daily operational issues to stay up to date on environmental topics. As a result of this interest, Ohio Clean Marinas will be hosting a marina conference for our all our certified and pledged marinas. Come out and join the discussion as speakers from ODNR, Marina Electrical Equipment, Ohio Sea Grant, EHOVE Marine Trades Program and others as they talk about topics relevant to marina owners and managers. We will also be holding an awards ceremony to recognize all our new 2016 Ohio Clean Marina certifications and recertifications. Be on the lookout for both an email and letter invitation in the coming weeks for further details.

New Logo and Marketing Materials!

The Ohio Clean Marinas Program is adopting a new logo and we are developing a new marketing kit to help you promote yourself as a Clean Marina. Be sure to promote your status as an Ohio Clean Marina as you are exhibiting at boat and trade shows! Upon request, Clean Marina staff will be happy to provide any marina with free Clean Boater Materials to distribute. Contact with questions.

Funding Available: National Safe Boating Council Boating Safety Youth Program

In addition to receiving national recognition for your efforts, the award includes a cash prize of $2,500 to be used for the implementation or enhancement of a youth-oriented boating safety program.

Program Evaluation Results

Thank you to all who participated in our program survey. We had 45 marinas from 23 zip codes throughout Ohio take part in the survey. We received great feedback that give a snapshot of marinas in Ohio and appreciate your time in contributing ideas that will continue to make the program successful. The survey data is in the process of being compiled and will be made available in early 2017. Be on the lookout for a final report.
