Spring Cleaning Time! Feel free to share these tips below for helpful Clean Boating reminders for your boaters.
Shrink Wrap - reduce, reuse, then recycle! Consider purchasing a reusable cloth boat cover, reusing your plastic shrink wrap cover on a smaller vessel or as a tarp, and properly prepare your wrap for recycling if that option is available to you. Watch our shrink wrap video for more information.
Vessel Cleaning - do your research when it comes to "eco-friendly" or "biodegradable" cleaning products. In some cases these products are worse than good old-fashioned dish soap when it comes to their impact on our waterways. Read labels and check out Boat US's helpful guide.
Engine Maintenance - take the time now to get your vessel in tip-top shape, both for safe boating and to decrease the chance of environmental hazards such as fuel and oil spills.
AIS prevention - have any big summer trips planned? Will you be traveling to multiple waterways in a short amount of time? Be sure to practice the "Clean, Drain, Dry" method to prevent the spread or introduction of aquatic invasive species, which wreak havoc on our environment and our pocketbook. Want to help further to stop the spread? Volunteer with Old Woman Creek to pull European Frogbit this summer or find a local effort near you! |
