Stone Lab Workshops Still Open

College students, natural resources managers, and the general public can still take advantage of Stone Laboratory’s workshops this summer. With topics ranging from Outdoor Photography to Lake Erie Sport Fishing, there is a summer workshop for everyone at Stone Lab. Learn skills like larval fish and algae identification, fish sampling techniques, and management of algal toxins from professionals in short one-, two-, or three-day sessions. Some workshops even offer Environmental Protection Agency contact hours to natural resources professionals. Apply Today!

Report Discusses Legal Tools for Lake Erie HABs

Researchers at the University of Toledo College of Law recently published a report addressing legal solutions and makes recommendations for using laws to reduce HABs. Ohio Sea Grant’s Jeff Reutter served as Co-Principal Investigator for this National Sea Grant Law Center-sponsored project.


2 Workshops Offer Climate Curriculum for Teachers

This summer, Ohio Sea Grant and the Ohio State Climate Change Outreach Team will offer one-day workshops to introduce an updated Great Lakes Climate Change Curriculum, geared toward science instructors in the Great Lakes region who would like to integrate climate change education into their classroom.


Extension Specialists Present at Family Fest

Extension Specialists Frank Lichtkoppler and Tory Gabriel taught nearly 150 children fishing skills and how to make fishing lures, and answered questions about Lake Erie at the Lake Erie Family Fest at the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village on June 3.

Kelch Retires After 32 Years

Dave Kelch retired at the end of May after 32 years as an Ohio Sea Grant Extension Specialist based in Lorain County. Over his Sea Grant career, Dave has helped enhance people’s understanding of and experience on the lake, educating the public about the science behind the outdoor pursuits that he himself has enjoyed since childhood.
