From the President & CEO

At Young Americans Center, financial literacy means teaching youth about free enterprise, global economics, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy in a fun, hands-on way.  It's now that time of year when we're asking for your help to keep making this happen.

By making a year-end gift, you ensure students like Ecco, a 10-year-old from an at-risk Aurora elementary school, learn how to save in Young AmeriTowne.  You help students like 13-year-old Serina, a student from an at-risk middle school in Commerce City practice good customer service.  And you enable students like Victoria, a 13-year-old student at a Denver middle school with 82% of students on free lunch, to envision a brighter future for herself in YouthBiz StartUp.

Please help us reach our goal of raising $20,000, which will provide scholarships for an additional 634 deserving students this year.  Thank you for your continued participation and support, and Happy Holidays!

YouthBiz Entrepreneurs Impress at Colorado Uplift Finale

The “best of the best” youth entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges last month.  These 16 middle school students won top honors at their school’s Colorado Uplift / YouthBiz StartUp pitch competition, and convened for the finals to compete for the top prize: $250.  Their creativity and professionalism impressed judges and audience members alike!

In total, 155 students representing six different Denver Public Middle Schools gained real-life experience in entrepreneurship through this partnership.  Read about their creative business ideas and find out who won on our blog.

Subaru selects Young Americans Center as Hometown Charity

Young Americans Center for Financial Education is thrilled to be selected as one of two "hometown" charities benefitting from Schomp Subaru's annual Share the Love event!  From November 14 through January 2, a portion of all sales (both new cars and service!) at Schomp Subaru can be designated to support Young AmeriTowne.

Thank you Park Burger Lovers!

Thank you to Park Burger and to the many burger lovers who ordered the Ominvore's Colorful Complex at Park Burger last month!  Created by Burger Biz winners Gabe and Kellan, this burger included tasty, seasonal ingredients such as Brussels Sprouts, fig jam, bacon, and goat cheese atop a bison patty.  In total, 657 burgers were sold, and Park Burger will donate $657 to Young Americans Center.

Entrepreneur of the Month:

Hannah Doolittle, Simply Denver Soap Co.

Hannah’s beautiful soaps make it hard to believe that she’s an 11-year-old entrepreneur who’s only been in business for about six months!  As the owner of Simply Denver Soap Co., Hannah has created all-natural soaps in six different scents.  Her soaps, which make perfect holiday gifts, are available for purchase on her Etsy site.

How FirstBank Supports Youth Financial Literacy

FirstBank supports Young Americans Center in two important ways: through it's support of Colorado Gives Day, (FirstBank partners with Community First Foundation to provide a $1 million incentive fund), and through the FirstBank in Young AmeriTowne.  According to Joe Amato-Baril, Senior Vice President of Marketing at FirstBank, who is pictured above in AmeriTowne, "We know education is the single most impactful way we can help tomorrow’s generation achieve financial independence, and we’re grateful to Young Americans Center for Financial Education for helping us make that possible."
