Staff Notes

September 2019

Thank you to the social committee for planning a great family BBQ last month!
 

Bank

  • Money Matters Classes occur on these Saturdays this month: September 14 at HQ, September 21 at GVR, and September 28 at Belmar.  Youth can earn $10 into their bank account for participating.

Programs

  • Young AmeriTowne welcomes its first students of the 2019-20 school year on Monday, September 9!
  • International Towne welcomes its first students of the 2019-20 school year on Tuesday, September 17!
  • On the Road travels to Grand Junction this month.
  • Welcome new Programs Assistants Katie Hageman and Madeline Hauck!
  • Congratulations are in order for two promotions: Chris O'Reilly has been promoted to Senior On the Road Director and Kelsie Byrd has been promoted to floating Programs Director.
  • Susan Weimer has moved from OTR in Denver to be the new AmeriTowne Director at Belmar.
  • Young AmeriTowne in Denver and Belmar will have a new shop this school year: Sports Arena sponsored by Kroenke Sports Charities!

YouthBiz

  • YouthBiz is hosting two workshops this month in the YouthBiz Lab.  On Thursday, September 5, 10-14 year-olds will learn how to make (and market!) three different organizing systems.  On Saturday, September 14, 10-18 year-olds will learn how to make a business plan.
  • Denver Startup Week is coming up, and YouthBiz is excited to participate!  This year, youth can join four events:
    • Youth Pass Pitch Competition - Tuesday, September 17
    • YouthBiz Marketplace & Expo - Wednesday, September 18
    • Making It: Achieve Success in the Maker Movement at Any Age - Friday, September 20
    • Youth Early Access - Friday, September 20
  • For a second year, YouthBiz is teaming up with Park Burger restaurants in Burger Biz!  The creator of the best burger wins a $500 prize.  Youth ages 6-12 are eligible to participate in this free workshop, which runs from Tuesday, October 15 through Friday, October 18, 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

Miscellaneous

  • If you're interested in participating in the Xcel Day of Service on Saturday, September 7, please contact Kelsie.
  • Friday, September 13 is Jeans Day!  Please pay $5 (in support of our holiday family) to either Kelsie or Thuy.  Jeans must be free of holds and appropriate for work.
  • Save the date for the staff Holiday Party this November at Voodoo Comedy.  The evening is from 6-9pm on November 16.
  • Did you know that you can access important information regarding benefits, PTO, policies, and payroll at the yacenter.org Employee Site?  The password is Hr. 
  • Young Americans has moved to a new server!  If for some reason server files don't appear on your computer, type \\yac-file01 into the search field to access these files. 
  • The current wifi password is: Summer2019.
