From the President & CEO

It's Teacher Appreciation Week, and Young Americans Center for Financial Education has never been more thankful for teachers!  In the midst of an ever-changing educational environment, teachers at all grade-levels have learned new, engaging ways to deliver lessons as well as to provide emotional and social support to their students.  We are in awe!

To show your appreciation for teachers, we encourage you to support Young Americans Center on Giving Tuesday Now, Tuesday, May 5.  Your donation helps bring financial education to an online classroom so that a teacher can continue to deliver much-needed money smarts.  Thank you for your support!

Support Kids by Shopping for Gifts

One week left to shop the YouthBiz Online Marketplace!

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, and you can find unique gifts at the first-ever online Marketplace!  At this ultimate buy-local experience, young business owners sell their own distinctive products–all handmade. You will find beaded jewelry, greeting cards, bath products, home baked goodies, artwork, and more while the online shops are open through Saturday, May 9.  Surprise your mom, a graduate, or treat yourself, all while you stay home and support youth-owned businesses!

Shop through Saturday, May 9!

Virtual Money Smarts for Local Girl Scouts

Despite not being able to gather in one setting, Girl Scout Brownies met virtually to earn a Philanthropist badge from Young Americans Center last month.  Troop Leader Mary Leathers commented, “It was a fun format, and I was pleased to see [the scouts] sharing their thoughts on this type of virtual platform.”  A fun experience was had by all, and the girls were excited to receive their badge!

Former YouthBiz Stars are now successful Denver business owners

Taylor and Tanner Barkin, pictured above at Young Americans Center's annual business competition in 2012, encourage young entrepreneurs to apply this year. “Being a part of this competition is a win, even if you don’t ‘win.’  The encouragement from those around you will give you energy and excitement to grow your business to be as big as you want it to be.”

Find out how these two YouthBiz Stars became successful Denver business owners with the help of their mentor Curt Richardson on our blog.

CoBank’s Commitment to Creating Equitable Education for All

Looking at financial literacy trends, there are large disparities between who has access to this education and who does not.  Among the most impacted are Black and Hispanic low-income families. The need to provide high-quality, proven programs about financial literacy to ensure no family deals with the burden of financial fragility—especially during times like these—is crucial.
