Canola Bills to Take Center Stage in Salem
Sign the New Petition to Keep Canola Out of the Willamette Valley
There are two bills in the Oregon legislature that would restore the pre-existing canola-free zone in the Willamette Valley to protect specialty seed and vegetable growers, clover producers, and organic farmers. Many legislators are still ‘on the fence’ on this important issue and need to hear from constituents in the coming days and weeks to ensure the Legislature takes action.
One bill, HB 2427, would restore protections in place that prevent the planting of canola in the Willamette Valley. SB 433 as currently written would block canola statewide, but the chief sponsor (Senator Chris Edwards) is planning an amendment to limit its scope to the Willamette Valley where canola is most damaging. Please take action on our petition
in support of these bills to make sure your legislators are hearing from you at this critical time.
