Pro Pasture Campaign Launches!

We are excited to announce the launch of our new
Pro Pasture campaign. In our mission of advocating for sustainable agriculture in Oregon, we are gathering farmers, ranchers, consumers, food purchasers, retail stores, chefs and restaurateurs to join us in promoting agriculture that puts a high value on animal welfare and pasture raised livestock.

Across Oregon, a growing number of farmers and ranchers are making the choice to raise animals on pasture in a way that is respectful to the environment, humane for the animals and good for rural communities. You can support these farmers by educating your friends and neighbors, and by supporting pasture raised producers at least one day a week. On Fridays, look for the Pro Pasture Fridays logo at a participating retail outlet, restaurant, or farm.

Learn more about what you can do to support this campaign and how just one day a week can make a difference.

Governor Signs FoFF Supported Legislation!

On August 14, Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber signed two key FoFF priority bills into law: HB 2427 to ban commercial canola production in the Willamette Valley until 2019, and HB 2700 to create a state Beginning Farmer Loan Program. Knowing he was under great pressure to veto HB 2427, we applaud Governor Kitzhaber for signing this bill into law. Canola is a very risky crop due to cross-pollination danger and increased pest and disease pressure on other important regional crops. The Willamette Valley should ultimately be protected for the long term, but HB 2427 struck the right balance by providing certainty and protections for the Willamette Valley's valuable specialty seed, fresh market vegetable and organic industries for the next several years, while ensuring future decisions are based on rigorous, peer-reviewed science.

Please contact Governor Kitzhaber to say 'thank you' for signing HB 2427 and HB 2700 and urge him to work to permanently protect the Willamette Valley from being opened to canola production.
